Default Almost killed my partner

We sunday we decided we were going to the track after I got off work. So we loaded up and got to the track a little later than we wanted but oh well. Well the girl tells is they are closeing early at 6. We were kinda pissed b/c they were going to charge up full price and we had roughly an hour to get everything unloaded setup and warmed up. So we paid after driving an hour there. Well my partner went to go get race gas b/c the pump were empty and they had it in the tower. So i was putting the slicks on and putting ice in he intercooler and basically speeding up the process so he can hop in a go. Well in the process of putting the freshly painted wheels on I put them on wrong. Thinking that they only fit through 1 set of holes and never having the problem before I thought nothing of it. The lugs torqued down fine and everything. Well after coming back from his first and only pass in the car his brakes went out at 130+mph. He said he hit the brakes and they worked fine and then about an 1/8 mile later there was no pedal. So he is okay and gets back to the pit and he tells me what happened and I look down and am like HOLY expletive and I point out the wheel studs. The wheels still roll straight and everything seems fine having not yet taken it apart b/c we are waiting on studs and lugs. But I felt so bad, I mean his wheel or some **** could have come off at 130+ and he could have died. I have definitely learned to pay more attention. I always say "why get in a hurry, you only get disappointed." Front shocks were also blown and did some carving on the slicks. Good thing they weren't new. So no matter how big of a hurry always pay close attention.
I dont know why we tow it with regular wheels on it and change to the slicks, it just takes more time.

Pics.

WHOA! Lucky day for you guys! That car is pretty badass, it would have been a shame to see it go down for that!

We all fu.ck up from time to time. I bet you will never ever put wheels on without first checking if they're on correct anymore!

But what I'm confused on is what lug pattern size are those? Is it a universal 100/114.5x4 wheel? Even on 114.5x4 wheel, you can't even seat it on a 100x4 hub? How in the hell did you manage to put the wheels on in the first place?

ART- We are friends, this isnt business.

Finest- the wheels just slipped on like normal, I didnt force them on or anything. I think they are just holes there to make the wheels lighter.

I am not an idiot and this is the first time i have ever done anything like it. Hell I am usually the one double checking the car.

Any pictures with the wheel off? What kind of damage did it do? (besides what you listed earlier)

I think he went like 11.5x @ 130 or something like that. He ran on low boost (20psi). He said "glad I didnt put it in high boost" speaking of the brakes.

This will be something that I will NEVER do again.

And being the good friend I am, I am paying for everything.

We have yet to pull anything apart. We will do that when the parts come in. For now it is still sitting on the trailer.

the studs are skunk2 that are installed properly, pressed apart, new bearings, pressed in, welded.

my guess would be it happened during the burnout, that twin disk hits pretty hard.

this lug nut issue seemed to happen to me with my Lensos ONLY, with my bogarts they are fine, but if i run the lensos i have major issues, and i use the proper lug nut pitch angle for them as well

Just god smiling down on you. If it didn't happen you guys never would have looked at the wheels and you may have gotten killed on the next run.

glad you are OK

I am confused.

You mounted the wheel w/ holes in the wheels that were not made for the studs to go through... I understand that part.

But, what does that have to do with the left caliper blowing up and your buddy losing his brakes? I could see the car having extreme vibration or at the worst a wheel breaking under hard braking or acceleration, but I am not tieing the wheel mounting problem and the caliper problem together.

What am I missing that everyone else is getting? Haha...

Me mounting the wheel improperly has nothing to do with the brakes going out, that is a totally different side of the car. I was just stating that while his wheel COULD have come off down the track his caliper failed on the opposite side of the imporoperly mounted wheel.

This car is going to need a parachute, and its **** like that that makes it all the more reason.
