Default ***Some Good News***

As of January 1st 2008, there will be no more emissions testing on any vehicle built prior to 12/95. This is to take affect on 1/1/2008, in all states. This should put alot of smiles on people's faces...

LOL that was the first thing I thought of when I read that.

Can you please give your source on that info? Doesnt it vary from state to state?

NC dropped emissions for pre-OBD2 cars on 1/1/06. No more sniffer, just safety inspection.

Very good news for me. Not that I've ever had to deal with emission testing.

So that the cars that actually might have emissions problems aren't going to be tested. But if you have a 2 year old ULEV Civic you have to pay $14 or whatever it is now.

Makes about as much sense as not checking diesel trucks/buses.

yeah i would've figured it'd be the other way around.
newer cars don't need to be tested as the olders ones do

It's all about ease and cost of testing for the states. Older cars require sniffers, which are expensive and delicate. Newer cars are plug-in.

shouldnt it be the other way around?? new cars dont need emission testing because they are mostly mechanically sound and are good with emitting emissions. On the other hand, older cars from 1995 and under should be tested b/c those are the cars that are not environmentally friendly as the newer ones. A lot of old cars are bent out of ship and release harmful gasses into the air
