Default high RPM miss?

hey guys. my friend has a 92 hatch with a b18c1 swap. we didnt do the swap but i know the kid who did and i know he did an excellent job. the last few times we took it out to play it seemed to miss a little at around 7500 rpm. feels like it bumps in and out of vtec and sounds strained. were going to start working on her tomorrow, but i was hoping someone might have some input, something simple we might be missing. only thing we did so far was a comp test(235 across) and changed the plugs. thinking maybe loose wiring or something. thanks for any help.

it might be wiring
it might be oil related.
mine snipped in and out of vtec a couple times before i had it working fully (oil pan dented, no pressure)

Check your oil level. Low oil pressure will cause it to go in and out of VTEC.
