Does anyone know how to classify what year the block is off a b16a,b18c etc.??
i have a b16a block with the numbers below the b16a starting with 5004459 does anyone know what year the block is?? or how to classify it?
JDM B16A's have no 1 or 2 after the "A". The ones that have a serial number that starts with a 5 are commonly referred to as 5 series. They are the higher compression motors rated at 170hp and have the valve covers that have the "VTEC" bigger than "DOHC"
impossible to tell what year it is by those numbers, only why to find out is if the Head is still on it,the Head has the year on it
hmmm?? so its prolly a jdm del sol vtec because below the b16a is the numbers 500447...
so the block is the 170 hp block? what is the difference anyways its running a pr3 piston so i can't see what else it could be different from the jdm 1st gen.

sorry to bring this back from the dead, but your 5 series engine is a first gen B16A out of a 90-91 Civic or CR-X SiR. the PR3 pistons let you know that it's a first gen 160hp b16. the 2nd gen 170hp B16A starts w/ a 5 too, but it would have P30 pistons. The 1 series came out of the 89-91 Integra XSi/RSi. Both the 5 and 1 series are good motors w/ the same compression and hp (unless you got an automatic 1 series motor...then your cams suck). sorry...had to clarify
