Free floating 5 axis CNC
i want one. just wild. i've never seen anything like this. unless the table rotates as well like on a 4th axis i'd think it would be a bit limited for angles though.

ridiculous, seems almost uncalled for, that thing was moving too fast for me to feel good about it...
if it works like that and it is stable it might be the coolest tool ever.

nice design, though I have half a mind to question its rigidity. Probably isnt much of a concern for the stuff they were doing, looked like they're running incredibly high rpm's on small dia cutters. I'd be interested to see it taking a roughing pass with a 3/4 endmill. Bet it wouldnt be so quick, then :D
at any rate, the design is definately a step in a different direction, and certainly has its place. Medical field would likely love that thing.

Wow I need a tissue.
I don't know about steel on that thing but I'm sure it would make short work of aluminium. I wonder how much range there is in the head.
Although what I have a hard time understanding is how you would do the gcode. I have a small 4 axis machine and never use the forth because I havn't had time to figure out how to make it work with my cam softare.

programming for 4th axis is very easy once you get used to it. it all has to do with your wcs when you do your programming so you can rotate the part. typically you don't machine and rotate at the same time, you just rotate to any given angle, perform machining operations, then rotate again to another angle and perform more operations. what machine and software are you running?
