Low compression, blown Head gasket, new head or swap?
hey im wondering if i should swap my D16y8 out for like an LS engine? i dont hit Vtec that much, its more for driving 120 miles a day. But i do want something thats faster than my d16y8.
I believe i have low compression, and a blown headgasket. When i floor it, it pretty much doesnt move at all, i have to lightly tap the throttle to accellerate, otherwise I will go def from the loud exhaust, and it just wont pick up speed at WOT.
Should i just replace the head with a ported and polished head? or get a b18 or something? i like low end torque...and im looking for something cheap. Wanna keep it under a 1000

you like low-end torque? Then why did you buy a Honda?
I think it'd be easier to swap and D series if its broken, than to fix it. That LS swap could be a nice upgrade that you could build later on with, say, a VTEC head or something. At least i would have more potential than a D...but thats what i think.

not sure on the numbers, but coolant is mixing with oil, and im sick of the consistancy of the performance, one day it could be very quick, and the next day its catastrophically slower, were talking more than 400% slower, where it will take me a 1 minute and 20 seconds minutes to get to 60, at WOT.
its a 5 speed too.
I have done just about everything BUT rebuild the head, otherwise everything else is brand new.
Top end sucks, and low end sucks even worse. Vtec feels like im running on 1 cylinder. Ive pretty much have all new OE stuff, except a new tranny/clutch/fuel pump and block/head.
Oh and ive tried setting the timing to stock, and also advancing it and retarding it. It feels a little nicer when its advanced, but on the other hand that only lasts one day.
The problem i have sounds like an exhaust leak, but i just dropped 300 fixing my leaks, so uhh, not sure......also my car is louder than hell. I have a chambered magnaflow muffler, and its just as loud as NO muffler. However i spent hours under the car looking for leaks, NOTHIGN!
Oh and the engine sounds like it has a turbo spool, when i rev past 4k, i can hear a VERY loud spooling sound, and when i shift, PSSSSHHH!
