D15B7 with D16Y8
I currently have a 95 civic DX (D15B7), in a few months I hope to put in a B16a or a B18C1. But for fun I have an oppertunity to buy a D16Y8 head for real cheap. I know I will also need a VTEC controller or a new ecu, which wouldn't be to hard to come by. Is my current bottom end stable enough to handle that head? Would it still be reliable. Would it be worth the time and money?

first off you ask to many damn questions, j/k....nah..your bottom end will handle the head easily, but you'll prob. need a EX/SI tranny to support it..it'll be reliable if done right...but my choice of opinion is save your money get a b16/b18 swap...major improvements.....

if you're looking for b series power, don't waste your money on the head swap, save that and put it towards the swap.

Do the head swap for fun for now until you get the swap.
Your bottom end will be fine.
May I make a few suggestions?
Get a 1996-up Civic EX head gasket - it's metal and raises your CR a bit.
Make sure you mill the head to make sure it's flat - blowing head gaskets after your head swap will suck.
Just find a P28 ECU from the 1992-1995 Si hatch, 1993-1995 EX coupe, 1992-1995 EX 4-ddor, or 1993-1995 Del Sol Si and you should be all set. Do not buy the VTEC controller as a means of engine management. Get the P28 manual ECU.
Since you have a 1995 Civic you'll need to wire up the VTEC - not really that hard at all.
I'll get back to this tomorrow, but for now I'm off to bed!
