removing bondo/body filler
i just bought a hb, and the previous owner bondo'd the rear quarter panel area where the trim goes. They didn't bondo any other area though. I want to try to remove the bondo and install the stock trim pieces. does anyone know how I go about removing it? thanks
As stated in the prior post, use "aircraft" brand paint stripper.
Do it in the shade and take your time. It WILL soften the bondo.
You may have to remove the bondo in "layers" due to the stipper not soaking in very deep.
Try to not let it get in through the holes once you get them exposed. It will remove the paint in places where rust can form latter.

i'd use one of those paint a rust remover wheels on a drill, they work pretty good, and they wont damage the metal. AND they give a nice clean surfave behind to prime and paint.

True, but the beauty about those paint and rust removers are, they break apart, so they dont get the metal very hot at all, as far as I know, there is no risk of warpage with one of those wheels. I know 3M makes a good one.

I have removed alot of bondo in my time and I have always used a sander/DA . Never had a problem burning the metal but I know it is poss. I just never like using strippers to much, they took to long.
I guess its up to the person though.
Good luck

Yeah just use an angle grinder. I wouldnt worry about warping the metal. Only if your planning to weld it. If you are that worried of warping just keep a cold wet towl with you so if it does get too hot for some reason the cold water will shrink the metal down.
I wouldnt advise cooling it down real fast like that. Thats what usually causes the warping.
But like I said you should have no problems with using a angle grinder removing any bondo.

any shop that wants to remove bondo/filler would use a grinder, that is true, HOWEVER a grinder will remove metal. if you read the first post, he wants to put the oem mouldings back on, so he cant damage the metal...
