Oil Filter Adaptor???
Ok, I have a leak that is coming from the "oil filter adaptor" on my car. The only mention I can find of this part is the name. I have looked in both Chilton and Haynes. Can't find anything on the forum here either. The adaptor is attached to the block (not sure how hence my question) and the oil filter screws into it. There are a couple of hoses going into the adaptor but I can't tell where they come from. The problem is that I can't see how the adaptor mounts to the engine so I can't tell how to fex the leak. Can anyone help with some more info about this adaptor?
Just to clear up any misconceptions, this is not an aftermarket adaptor to move the filter location or anything like that. It is something from the factory as far as I can tell.
Thanks in advance.
Oh, one other question- what size is the spindle nut on the front wheels? My Chilton manual claims it is a 26 or something like that, but the 30mm socket I have is too small. I'm guessing it's something like 36mm. I don't want to go out and keep buying sockets until I get the right one. I need the socket to change out my from rotors (terrible design from Honda!)

Still trying to download the manual so it might have more information, but I think it is the oil cooler. I saw online that the car has one so I looked it up in my Haynes manual and it says there is an o-ring between the cooler and the block. Sounds like that could likely be the culprit. Has anyone ever changed this? It doesn't look that hard. I'm wondering what size the o-ring is. I have a set of rings, but they aren't very big. Is it something I'd have to get from the dealer? I don't want to tear it apart and find out I can't get a new ring until Monday.
The hoses should be coolant hoses and I cant swear how many o rings there are but just go to the dealer and get them, be prepared to change the hoses if you really have to dig at them to get them off so look and see where the other end connects to also. Be extremely carefull in reassembly as to not knowck off the o ring when you are not paying attention and pinch it and have to do it all over again.
Use a cresent wrench to measure the axle nut and carry it to the store to buy your socket, 36 is used on some Hondas/Acuras, they are the largest of all cars I have worked on.

On the part that the Oil filter threads on to, theres a fairly large Nut all the way at the bottom, its probably about a 24mm socket or bigger, if you take that all the way off, the Oil filter adapter should slide off
Did you ever get this fixed? Was it theO-ring? I have the same problem on my 1992 Accord EX. It started to leak right after our first hard freeze. I'm thinking that it may also be the O-ring. What was the size of the bolt holding the oil cooler onto the block?
Thanks,
Larry

Funny that this thread is up right now. I have had oil leaking from what I thought was the ) ring in between the oil cooler and the block for the past few months.
Went to Honda got the O ring $6. I think OK sweet, drain the oil, take off the filter. I did not remove the coolant hoses, I unscrewed the nut inside the housing, I want to say maybe 24mm, I do not remember what I used. I seperated the cooler from the block found a nice dry rotted gasket.
Cleaned all surfaces, coated new O ring with oil, reassembled and was excited, as that went very smooth.
Started it up and the leaking was still there...
Turned out it was leaking from the O ring but also there was a split or hairline crack in the actual oil cooler itself. I have not been driving the car in the past few days. And I actually picked up a used housing today for $20
I plan on installing the used crack free housing tomorrow. I hope everything is legit as the car leaks out a ton of oil under pressure, yet little to none when its off. THe best part is that it leaks directly on the flex pipe and all burns off and smokes from under the hood and it reeks!!!
