Default Do i need a new clutch? or a new tranny?

i was driving home today in my car and i noticed that it was getting a little to hard to shift it into gear. i rolled up to a stop sign and proceded to put it in first gear when it wouldnt let me in. i tried all the gears no even reverse.

i pulled to the side turned the car off and on no luck

i turned the car off put it into first gear and turned it on with the clutch pressed all the way down it felt like it wanted to stall out and it was slowly advancing forward?

so i dunno if it is my clutch or my tranny i cant drive the car to a shop i have to tow it where ever i need it go

the worst part is the tranny was in perfect working order prior to this i had no grinds perfect shifts and no other problems till now
any help would be apriciated guys i mean i have only have a few weeks of school left and i was gonna buy a new car but this is totally killing me

It's unlikely that the tranny itself is bad, especially without any prior problems.

1. Check the m/c fluid level. Top off if needed.
2. Is the m/c leaking? Check for fluid under the pedal and under the carpet. Also place a piece of cardboard under the slave cylinder to check for leaks.
3. If neither of these are leaking, and the system holds hydraulic pressure, time for a new clutch.

I can't tell by your post if you have a cable tranny or a hydrolic. If cable, then spin the adjustment **** and hopefully all is well. If hydrolic, check your clutch MC resevoir as mentioned above, bleed system if too low, and check around the slave cylinder to see if it is leaking. On rare occasions, the clutch MC or slave cylinder can fail and cause your syptoms.

What is the pedal pressure like? Try to pump the pedal several times to restore pressure to the system and limp into the shop in 2nd gear.

I have the same exact problem with my 90 integra. I took it to the mechanic and he said that its the pressure plate that is weak so the clutch is not releasing fully. He told me to powershift it (not using the clutch pedal at all). Before taking the car out of gear, I hold down the clutch until the rpm's fall, which takes a few seconds because apparently the pressure plate isn't releasing fast enough... I think. After that I dont have problems putting it into gear. Also, if it does happen, I start the car with the shifter in neutral otherwise the car will start and quickly die. Does anyone else think this makes sense or is the mechanic telling me some bs to get a clutch job?

yes thats some real B/S about the power shifting but u probably need a new clutch system or pressure plate/ clutch disc.

yep, sounds like new clutch is in order. It's not disengaging fully, which is why it was trying to stall and creep forward when you tried to start it while in 1st gear.
