Default Non Si acceptable?

I'm thinking about getting a new car and it might be this, but I don't know if I can get a Si....would a non-Si model(coupe) be any good for tuning(all motor)? Or is it just pointless like the EM(or were they good)?

I concur... you presently have the option to pick up the Si...a warranty and save HALF your "upgrading"

I'd go Si

I testdrove an SI at the dealer yesterday, was heavily considering trading in my LX for one. Now Im having second thoughts. THe SI has no low-end power, you have to rev it to the sky before it moves. I would go with a mazdaspeed 3

So let me get this straight...

You bought an LX.... then test drove an Si... calling THAT underpowered and recommending to someone to buy a Mazdaspeed 3 that NOONES really been through the trenches with other than mags...

wow...

when will people learn

HORSEPOWER does NOT define performance

the si handles like a champ, and true... it may not have that much bottom end power and u have to rev til 6 grand to get vtec engagement but think about this.... if u are racing someone where do u launch from? where do u shift from? if u launch at around 4200 rpm and redline it and shift at 8k, u will pretty much stay in vtec while racing. so u can keep most top end power at ur feet and running.

also, the si interior is awesome. seats, tach, shift light, pedals, plus its just nice all around. screw the mazda unless its an rx7. if its a honda, its an si or nothing!!!!1!!!1!!1!

mazdaspeed 3 definitely has its perks with all the horsepower and track performance, but what I'd miss the most about the honda is the shifter. All of the articles that gave the mazda its well-deserved praise mentioned the vague shifter feel. For me one of the joys of the SI is rowing through the gearbox. Just my $0.02...

That's just an EX...

Haha i'm loving the responses in this thread. "Si or nothing!" "Mazda sucks unless it's an RX-7! NEVER MIND THE FACT THAT FOR EVERY DAY YOU DRIVE ONE, IT SPENDS 3 IN THE SHOP!"

The only reason I didd'nt opt for the SI was that in '06 it was only a 2dr. (got kids?)
Now I'm definetly leaving my LX completely stock, and then trading up to the SI sedan at the end of '07.
Maybe an Accord V6?
Hell the SI is packing 50+ more horses, I would go with that.

But when you get an accord hybrid, you get V6 performance (and a better 0-60 time than the non electric car) at 4 cylinder performance, but I'd see why the civic would feel like a 'sportier car'.

The new Accord V6 coupes with teh 6 speed are hot, but definitely not family oriented

Eh, the Accord Coupe V6 is great on pure HP, but it's a porker at 3300lbs and larger dimensions (plus the wishbone suspension in the front ). I like the Si for the stability and quickness through turns. It's a fun little canyon car

Of course, that's all just my opinion, and I sure wouldn't knock anyone getting the Accord Coupe V6 6-spd! It's still a nice car by far, and a Honda!

Yea...the hybrid V6 comes in 4 door. It will be 'faster' than an Si, but you're gonna feel the heft compared to a Civic. It's definitely a tradeoff...i'm going through the same thing right now car shopping, that's why i'm snooping around the 8th gen civic forum here...

Have you read the mag reviews on the mazdaspeed 3? They are saying the power is way inconsistent, and it's very peaky. I would go with the SI easily just on looks alone, and I own a mazda now. The tmic intercooler with no hood scoop, only vents under the hood seems like a poor design to me.
