Well, went to visit the girlfriend in a location in Florida last night, and decided to lock the doors as I rarely do as the neighbour hood is kind of 'skectchy.'
So with the doors locked and alarm set, we progress inside and carry on with the night.
Wake up at 8:00 to take her to class and realize that I locked the keys in the car. No biggie, we ride to school. Leave her second class and call AAA to meet us at the car and to help us out.
So we make it home, and I had a weird thought of trying her keys on my car. Now she has a 97 Integra GS.
So I go outside with her keys, put it in the trunk lock, and it slides right in (weird I thought) so I tried turning it and 'pop' the trunk opens. At first I was 'yyyeeeahhhh' then it progressed to 'WTF!!!!!' So I just put the back seats down, climb through and grab the keys and we are off.
So, in conlucsion, if you have any friends with Interga's, try and see if their key works in your trunk lock. As a result, I am thinking of shaving the lock off just as a precaution.
Just a heads up

My S2000 valet key almosts (it cranks) starts my wife's Honda Accord....if it wasn't for the chip in her key, it would start.
Now everyone begins to realize why I shaved my trunk lock off. Get some 4 door rear handles too and a good alarm.
Isn't this post helping theives by giving them something else to try?
If it happens to be as easy as that then kiss some more R's goodbye....
Louie~ who has one more thing to worry about now.

When school was over, I walked to my car and unlocked my R with the key and it wouldnt go in! Being the girl that i am i was assuming that it was my clumsiness since i wasnt use to my car yet cuz i recently bought the car. so i took the key out and put it back in...it went in a lil deeper the second time but it was complicated...finally it went in and it was kinda hard to turn.....so FINALLY i got it unlocked and was like WAITTT...SOMEONE TRIED TO STEAL MY CAR and jammed my keyhole! luckily for me my car was still there and the idiot who tried to take my car is a dumbass. so i dunno....i wanna try to open my trunk with a 97 integs key and if it really does work then yeah..i think imma have someone shave the lock off </TD></TR></TABLE>

when i was at work my uncle locked his keys in his car, and one of our customers told us about this so we tried his EJ1 key on my uncles EJ1 and it worked haha. his key got stuck but it came out with a tug but yea its scarry how some keys fit in others
Although posting this does inform thieves, it also inform those that don't know about it, like me. But damn, I wasn't aware of this. Now I must take action and shave it off too.
yeah, this works. it totally sucks, but it does. a kid i knew back at school WAS a car theif (keep your friends close and your enemies closer) and he showed me how to "fool" a honda lock mechanism so it will accept almost any honda key. it blew my friggin mind.
Honda only cuts a certain amount of different key patterns every year for all their cars. This is common practice for many cars manufacturers.
It's just luck that you gf's key fit in your ITR's trunk. All ITR locks can not be opened with your gf's key. In the same though, all other Integras can't be opened with your ITR key.
I know a few thieves that I went to high school with and a few repo guys, all agree and all have master key sets to most cars.

Well that sucks...
this also works on auto locks. :] i tried it myself on my friends autolock while he was in the restroom. i was sitting in his car and he had his auto lock on his clutch. used a key a lil smaller than a car key so that it can go in, jiggle it a lil so it hits all the right pins and poped it came off. i threw it under his seat and he thought someone stole it ;p

That is one of the unfortunate things about Hondas. Using different keys to open locks. It's even worse when they age because the tumblers in the ignition were out and make it possible to jiggle key locks and ignitions. This became very clear to myself when a friend tried his EK key in my EF... let me just say I went home and installed some saftey features. Please don't accuse me of giving ideas to theives because lets face it half of them brake the **** just as easy so it's not doing them any favors. The best bet to stop theives is something like lojack, even alarms don't always work because by the time you wake up they are gone. Please install extra features to your security systems because the Type R is a disappearing breed!!!
