Default Tall guy looking for a bike...

Hi everybody. I'm 6'8 and ride an '83 Suzuki GR650 now. It's my first bike and I love her to death, but I really want to step up to something a bit more fitting for a big bastard like myself come this spring.
I really like how I fit the SV1000, R1, and Z1000, but I really don't think I'm ready for a liter bike just yet. What would be a larger-sized bike (standard or sport) that doesn't have the insane-o power of modern liter bikes? I'm looking to get something used in the $3-7000 range.

Thanks for your help!

Get a GSXR 750 and throw a 4" lift kit on it.

Don't the 750s have the same chassis as the 600s?

i dont know if you knew this or not but you are tall as hell.

f you want the full sized frame you might want to look into something Vtwin in the 1000 variety. it wont be significantly different than a 750 power wise other than having a bit more down low. although the only bikes i can think of in vtwin that are 1ks are the rc51(which would be a bitch for your tall ***) or a 996 998 (but the ducs arent know to be the most comfortable for tall riders). you could also look into a Aprilla. you could ask MSchu how he likes his. i think there is also someone else on here with one, you could ask them how they like theirs and how they think a big guy would like it.

damn your tall.

Yeah, I get that alot.

I went to the local Triumph dealer and sat on a Thruxton (which I already loved, btw) and absolutely LOVED how it sat, but I just don't think I can totally justify spending $8k + to get a 69 hp bike.

Like I already said, I like how the SV1000's feel, but they're a bit pricey brand new. Would an older TL1000 be of similar fit? They'd be a bit more in my price range.

ps:
I'm tall as hell. (pic is ~2 years old. I've cut 50 lbs since then)

holy ****, your a genius. i didnt even think of that bike. the TL1000 would probably be a great choice. i remember that bike being pretty big.

so far I would say that would be a pretty good fit for what you are looking for. it doesnt hurt to find one and sit on it either.

did i mention you are ******* huge.

Well I guess I have my work cut out for me:

-Find a TL1000 and try it out for size
-Go back to Japan again and try some more chicks out for size

ehhhh?

I think a liter v-twin would be perfect for you, Lots and lots of grunt to get your *** going, and a little bigger dimensions for ya.

The only thing is the TL1000's i know have some issues, i believe a big one is the rear suspension, and some fuel injection issues. You shold look into a Honda superhawk, i'm sure you'd like that. SV1000 would be a good choice if you can find a decent deal on one.

sv1000 used for sure. They're cheap as hell used and still have a great aftermarket. Keep your eyes open, you'll love the sound.

Yeah, I really do already love the sound of a nice V2. I've heard that RC51s are fairly cramped, is that correct? Also, I really dig Ducati Monsters (especially the Dark). What Japanese bike would they be comparable to, sizewise? SV650?

That's pretty much exactly what I was going to say except put an S on the end of the SV. I'm glad I don't have to type it out now.

You look like muthaphuckin Godzilla right there man

You need to sit on the bikes because seat height stats mean absolutely ****. Some bikes that have relatively tall seat heights may have a narrower seat, giving you a lower, knee bent sitting position. So far, I think the Yamaha's and Ducati's feel the tallest.

Monster Dark

But for real, just go around and sit on some bikes and see what you like.

6'6 And a TL1000 is what I found most comfortable, and since I work at a Powersports shop, I sit on every bike that comes in. I'll keep an eye out for bigger, standard looking bikes.
