I've driven about 50 miles before with just the upper half of a header on, no downpipe. I've also driven about 2 miles with no header at all. That was pretty damn funny. Couldn't hear anything for about 30 min after that.

It's been done. From Springfield to Fairfax and back, no downpipe either

I've gone about 12 miles with an open header, mostlly back roads tho. I got to the muffler shop 20 minutes before closing. Had to give the guy an exttra $20. to bend and install the pipes for me.

about 6 months
and I was driving about 120 mile alone just to school each day (not including everywhere else). At the time it was about 1000 miles a week. So about 26 weeks at a 1000 miles is 26,000 miles with no exhaust, no cat, just open header. And not pulled over once for it. Then again, I lived in hicksville at the time.

wouldn't it have been quieter to UPSHIFT and lower the rpms than to hold it in second at i'm guessing probably 40mph for an extended period of time...
just my thoughts on your post...

I drove a crappy GEO Storm with an exhaust broke off just at the header outlet. It rumbled the floor at your feet, drove it about 30 miles straight like that...it sucked.

Before I had the money to buy a race muffler I would drop the stock rear section and replace it with a striaight piece of pipe and drive 200km to the track and back

thats with a gutted cat and a midpipe with no resonators

yeah I could have changed it there but it was too hot to work on your car and then go race

I did this a couple of times...after the first time I would always forget to buy ear plugs for the trip so I would end up stuffing my ears with toilet paper.

every radar trap I would pass by I'd clutch in and coast by the pigs.

LOL, I had a 1980 ford FIESTA (no not a festiva, the festiva sucks.) the fiesta was built in europe and kicked ***!
I drove 7 hours each way from Rochester NY to Montreal Canada with just a header.
no exhaust at all.
1.5 liters of British Designed Ford fury babay!
I couldn thear much after that roadtrip, but it was awesome cruisin down the thruway and canyon carving in Vermont, holeee chit mang. That musta been 1200 miles round trip...I had to cross the border twice and during the entire weekend I got NO TICKETS TOO!

Felt pretty much the same. Although it was on a 87 CRX Hf, 60hp. So I don't think you could really do anything to it to make a difference in hp.

open headers before the cat. for 2 weeks (600 miles) ate gas like a hunry bitch.
open headers, opened the second part of the stock header the lower part.
1 week (12 miles)

This was on my stock integra RS. when i have my headers open, the gas needles
drops like a rock from a cliff. Plus its way way way too loud. Forget the radio, you can't even talk if the engine is running.
