Replace it with your stock one, take it to the CHp to inspect it for free, pay the $10 feee to the court and go home and pick your nose.

 

you can either put the stock exhaust on and take out anything illegal and go to the ref. then they will check your car and see if you pass.

or you can pay the fine which my friend paid around $250-300.

What exhaust do you have?

 

i want to know if you change out piping but not the muffler could they tell that you have a modified exhaust because of the sound ......

you aint lying...that sucks to have to deal with cops like that...hope everything works out man

 

If your exhaust is not loud just take it to the Ref for a db test it free. If you pass the db test the Ref will sign it off then go to the court house and show them that your ticket is sigh off then they will just charge you for the paper work and that is only 10 dallor.

 

i personally dont find it that bad in cali. sure cops will stop you and bs about your "modified" cars but that only happens when you do something stupid:
speed
rev or redline every gear
burn outs
gathering

I hope you kept the OE muffler... Just swap the new stuff back out with the old

 

Modified exhaust is no longer a fix it.. its $116 fine. Just pay it and be done with it.

 

i've never once been stopped for having anything modified...matter of fact ive gone through NJ inspection with a resonatorless exhaust, vision amber lenses with no reflector and full tint expecting to get the red sticker....but they passed me. it was with my OBD1 EG so they put me on the dyno for emissions...man that **** echoed through the whole building.

repalce with oem and then after it passes just swap back the one you had on it

 

just stuff the tip with steel wool...

first look on your ticket and see if its correctible. it should be marked on the side of the violation code. if not, then dont even bother correcting it, just pay it. i got a modified exhaust ticket and was not correctible. i paid 165

 

which violation code did you get?

 

on all tickets, turn to the back where you would sign it, but don't.. instead check "Option 2" for those of you not familiar with "Option 2" it goes like this..
with the officers attention, request option 2, if he allows it or has no idea what the hell you're talking about (funnier when he doesn't see it comin) exit your vehicle, and throwdown on the side of the highway. you win, it's like it never happened, if you lose.. i think you better just win...

sucks you have to deal with that in CA. what sucks worse in NE is if you have a cop that hates you, he can write you a ticket for your exhaust, and there is nothing you can do about it. the law here states if it is excessive noise that they can ticket you. but there is no line as to were it is excesive. no db number or anything. i fought it, went to court, and the judge said since the law is vauge, but he would just take the state patrolmans word for it as being to loud. i had to pay like $150 fine, and $200 for the lawyer, but that cop hasnt messed with me since then.
