What is that big black thing connected to the air filter box for?

I was doing some work and had to take it out.

 

everything is black, theres the intake tube, airbox, and i believe there are some ducts that run near the fenderwells.

 

This thing or whats suppose to go there...

 

if ur point to that it might be the vtec solinoid.

if u're talking of the big black box next to the airbox on top of the transmission, that's the resonator box. its to resonate air so that at low rpm, there would be a gain in torque or hp. search for resonator on google
