Ok guys I recently completely rebuilt a D16z6 and it starts up just fine it just knocks and it sounds like it is coming from the valvetrain around the #1 cylinder. I adjusted lash to 8-Intake and 10- Exhaust which is right inbetween spec. Like I said it clinks and clanks etc. The knock increases with RPM. Oil level is perfect. And Im positive its not belt slap. Any ideas?!?!
I know I have the valvetrain put together right too, but just incase can someone send me a pic of the z6 valvetrain and how its supposed to go together?
The motor runs great minus that knock LOL.
PLEASE HELP!! I need to get this running excellent TONIGHT!
Thank you!!

yes I rebuilt the block, Im pretty damn sure its not piston slap. It has to be in the valvetrain somewhere.
I moved the LMA's around and it sounded like it changed where the sound was coming from... Im leaning towards one of the LMA's being bad. Anyway to check this???

There is PLENTY of oil in the valvetrain now, Its brand new oil so its hard to see.
ANYONE ELSE??? PLEASE I NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS!!

Everything you said is correct, minus the block being shaved. checked block with straight edge and it checked out well.
I will go take a vid here in a min and host it up.
** I also changed my valvelash to the tighter side of spec to see if it would stop. 7-Intake, 9-Exhaust

Here is a video of it. Let me know what it sounds like.

-I have done a compression test and it came out great. I will have to go look for the numbers again but I remember they were all above 100 for sure.
-No I did not clay the motor, I am not even sure what that is? Anyone care to elaborate?
Hope the video helps...

you take a small strip of clay and lay it into each relief on the piston. then you install the head with timing belt, and hand turn the engine, see if the valves go THROUGH the clay and hit the piston.

wow what's that mb i need to do it too
