Default 215-50-17?

I was just calling around for tires, and it seems that there is more options to go with in the size 215-50-17 than the 45's. I was wondering if it would be ok to use 50's or would there be a rubbing issue or something.

i wouldnt it would be an inch taller of a tire and you speedo would be off by 2 mph at 60

a 205 50 17 would be closer its only half an inch diffrence and your speedo would be off by 1 mph

a 225 45 17 would be the closesr and is only 4/10th's of and inch off and your speedo would barely be off by one mph

of all the sizes the 225 45 is the most common it has been used on vw's for a long time

and who ever told you the 215 45 is not common is full of it it is more common the the 215 50 17

i work at a tire shop and we stock way more 215 then the 205 and we stock the most 225

then you want to go with the 205 50 17's or go to a 205 55 16 like most of us do for winter

the narrower the tire is the better it is for snow

first of all a 215-50-17 wouldnt be the same overall diameter, which is about 3/5's of an inch taller than factory. not a full a inch.

for those of you curious how to figure this out!

you are parcialy correct, if you read his origional post it asked about 215 50 17 which is a diameter of 25.5 stock si is a 215 45 17 which is a 24.6 and a 225 45 17 isnt the same size a 225 45 17 is a 25.0

so next time know what you are talking about

Dont worry man I know what Im talking, thats what im paid to do when it comes to hondas. What I had meant was the 215/50/17 was not a full inch bigger than oe size, and that 225/45/17 would be appr. the same saze od to od.

exact measurements...
215/50/17=25.46 inches
215/45/17=24.61 inches
225/45/17=24.97 inches

well i know what im talking about i sell tires for a living all i origional told him is dont waste his money on 215 50 they are to big and arent worth the little money spent to have your spedo off by that much and other options that would work better with less money spent since in his area 215 45 arent readily avaliable

I was not disagreeing with anything you said, someone above said that, the 215/50/17 was over an inch bigger od to od, that is what i was correcting.
