Default New Ride for the daily grind.

Well, I'm sure some of you guys saw the thread I made about anyone living in LA. Well, after some thinking and finding out what all was involved with getting that car, and the total cost to me vs. a local car I decided to switch directions.

I found a GS-R here, 98 with 150k on the chassis, but the good thing about this car (if you look at it that way) is that it had a papered Spoon engine purchased from Honda. The owner used to be a Honda technician and purchased it along with an ITR trans a quaffe diff and had it all installed.

So, that sounded great... well until I came into work that night. Interest and curiousity got the best of me and I started searching autotrader for some cars. If I was to get a GS-R, it had to be 98+ and black. There were none, so I looked into other options. I even had thoughts of a 2000 model Accord 5-speed in black. None of those to be found. So, I figured I'd check what the local S2K's were going for. I was pleasently suprised. I found a few with a sub 16k price tag. Score!!! The first one to catch my eye was a yellow one, 02 model with 68k on it for an amazing price of 14.8k. I was sold. Called the very next morning at their opening time only to find out it was already sold. Well ****. So back to autotrader I go. I came across an 00, black with 59k on it. Clean looking car so I decided to inquire. The car was still on the lot, and listed as a sale price of 15.5k. So I set everything up and went to look at the car on Saturday. Car looked great, some minor cosmetic issues (rear view missing, and the faded LR tail light reflector which I found out is a TSB issue) I took her out for a drive and figured I came all the way to Tampa, I might as well buy. So after some talking, I got the seller to come down all the way to 14.5 And so I took her home.

Thoughts: At first, on my drive back I was wondering if I made the right decision in my new DD. It is the right color I wanted, but damn it's not very comfortable even on short trips. For me, I can't put my foot on the dead pedal without having it rest on the clutch as well. I'm also not a convertable car liking person. But there was something different about the car once I became a little bit more comfortable. The first 1-2 shift at red line when the tires broke loose a little bit was interesting. Feels like the *** end is sliding around, something I'm not used to in all the FWD cars I've been driving over the years. But I have to say, after a good wash/wax, and about 500 miles later I have made the right decision. She's a keeper. As for future mods, definitely a hard top, maybe some bronze/gold rims and basically keep her stock.

I've only gotten a chance to take a few limited pics, and I didn't like most of them nor this one, but here it is.

Thanks. As for this car ever being a track *****, I highly doubt it. Just something for the street. However, a little bit of go pedal in a corner is awefully fun in this car.

Yeah, keep it up with the idiotic shenanigans on the street. Before you know it, you'll just be another FL street racer.

LMAO. That one drives a black GS-R.

It's just one of those things I had to try, RWD and all. It was fun, but now it always has me wondering what it will take to spin the car. Hopefully I don't ever have to find out. I hear AP1's are known for being very twitchy.

The bad thing about the car is that it lacks the power to correct itself. Thats how so many people wreck these cars, once the tires are loose you cant keep them going to get you back straight. Then that little bastard sticks and shoots you in which ever direction your pointing!!

But they do kick out quite well...

Balla, sadly no. I sacraficed (sp) long enough with my auto DX civic. It was time now that the R is built to spend money on a new DD. Thus you have what you see. So far, I have no complaints... well except you can't fit your foot on the dead pedal without it resting on the clutch as well.

Ha. Uh, er... No.

Actually, I wanted an AP1 and I wanted a black one. I really wasn't "looking" for an S, but after seeing the price I said why the hell not. It's even cheaper in Ins. than my R was.

Besides, he doesn't have an R.

Have fun with the new sled. Can't really think of a more appropriate Honda for a FL daily-driver.

having owned two s2k's at this point, i cannot emphasize enough how important "quality" tires are to this car......

the rears will wear out faster, but the so2's are the best match for this car.....

Yeah, definitely not a road trip kind of car. Beach, yes. Couple of hours, no problem. 15+ hours with the top down, HELL NO!!!

LOL. I still need to grow up too, but I think I'll wait another 20 years for that.
