Default To thouse with Spoon fly....

Have any of you gotten grinding while starting your car? It sounds like when you try to start a car when its already running I know they had issues with the older flywheels, but I thought that problem was with the pinion gear hitting the ring gear. Anybody else have this problem? Will chaning over to the JDM starter/pinion assembly help?

Craig - Who hopes he does not have to drop the tranny again for a while

My Fidanza made that noise like 2 or 3 times in the first week I had it on.
Even since then, no noise and no problems.

:middlefinger:

So are there realy different spoon flywheels? I know there was an old design and new design with the ring gear, but I thought the material was the same on all of them.

yes...its the starter teeth grinding with the teeth on flywheel.... i spoke to ragingangel who had this flywheel in his car for a while, and he said it would dent the flywheel teeth until he switched over to a civic SI/SIR starter, and that solved the problem...

beware!

I take it you are talking about the new Civic SI's? Anybody got one laying around they are willing to let go of for a good price?

Craig,
It is the teeth of the starter not meshing with the teeth on the FW. The Toda is angle ground to easily accept the different starters used by Honda. Problem is def starter dependant. Let me know if you want to switch out to the Toda...
By now, your tranny probably comes off by itself, right?

Hahaha.. no ****... We can drop a tranny in about 30 minutes now... and that includes a beer break

As for the toda, I think I'll just swap the starter for now... lot easier then a tranny drop, plus i'm sick of droping trannies (5 times in the past 2-3 months )

My J's racing flywheel worked just dandy from the get-go, maybe it's because I have a jdm starter.

I had this stupid *** problem with mine and I got pissed off enough to rape the starter off my friend's SiR/Si and there is definately a difference when you take them out and compare them hand in hand.....side by side....

the Mitsuba (SiR) starter seems to be weaker so the car sounds labored when it is turning over.....but it's no problem at all...

Been using it for quite a while now.

00-0187: If I am able to trade starters with you.... well check your IM please.....

For all those with the Denso starter and have no grinding problems.......CURSE YOU ALL TO HELL.....

hehehe
