MAJOR ENGINE PROBLEMS NEED HELP
i have a 91 civic dx d15b1 . i was driving home and it started sputtering and then died.. i got it running after messing with it for half hour but i cant go any faster then 55 and its shooting flames out the *** and wen i get on the gas it falls on its face.. i got now clue wuts going on definitly need some help..
Sounds like your running way to rich. Check the spark plugs and if they are nice and black your are a rich bitch. Do you have any check engine lights on ? If so check them out.
My honda civic did the same thing. The flames coming out of the exhaust is unburned gas that should have been ignited when driving. I am assuming this is a stock engine and ignition and fuel, dual point. Your problem is ignition related, mostly the igniter is not working properly. You can test it but it will work fine one day and the next while you are driving car will die on highway then all of a sudden turn back on, hence the flames, unburned fuel. The igniter is in the distributor housing. About 60.00-75.00 dollars to replace. Try a junk yard for used one might be cheaper just in case it is not that.
Good luck with it
Good luck with it
You don't have to replace the whole dizzy, just the igniter. Usually replacement distributors do not come with a igniter, you use your old one. If you replace dizzy and use your old igniter problem will reoccur.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Yeah try the igniter, which is the little chip in the dizzy on the side with two little screws, close to the bottom, but some people might be calling it differen't and actually talking about the COIL PACK, lol which is the little black box inside the distributor cap on the top.
well i took the cap off and the rotor is out of time about a 1/4" and it melted itself back to the distributor so i thingk i figured out the problem.. but the other dizzy is off of another motor i have..so its got everything in it..

It better be the EXACT same distributor for your engine and model, otherwise it's not gonna work, and if it does work...it's gonna be worst. Just replace your rotor and cap, and coil pack IF you have the money and can, or swap the parts from your other dizzy to your dizzy, then most honda distributors use essentially the same parts about.
well the shaft kinda seized in the old one and the dizzy i got is from the first motor that was in the car when i got it.. i bought it with a dropped rod.. but i changed out the dizzy and its runing great now..
