car cut off again...
i got a JDM h22 into my 92 lude. car ran fine all summer, and right before i was headin back to school, it cut off on me about the time i was getting into vtec. CEL and the check oil light both came on, and the car wouldnt turn back over. Took it to a mechanic and he changed the distributor and it was fine again.
then it sat till about 2 week or so ago, i was gettin on the interstate, and again, in vtec, the car shut off. the CEL and the check oil light came on again, and wouldnt turn back over.
I doubt its the distributor again... maybe somethin like this has happened to you guys..any help would be great.
thanks

My car does something similar to what your problem is. I've got to lay out the story before I can answer your question though.
I've got a '97 (had since 2001) and just within the last few months my car has randomly cut out during normal driving conditions (i.e. shifting at 3k or so). I don't believe my oil lamp came on, but the CEL did. My car would be dead in traffic and I'd wait a few seconds to try again and it would either: a. start up fine, or b. start up and die after repeated attempts.
After a few incidents of this happening I noticed my "key" light would flash after it cut off. So while my car was coasting (after cutting out), I tried just slightly turning my key forward (like I would to start the car) and the motor kicked back on and I was on my way. It was then I realized that the problem is the ignition. I've since tested this out and found that sometimes my key doesn't get read by the car when it clicks into "on" mode right before starting the car. This explained why it would start up and kill instantly repeated times because the key wouldn't stay fully clicked in when starting up the car (I'm talking about fractions of an inch difference here, not like 1/4 turn or anything).
I've talked to my dad about it and he's a mechanic. We're going to take the steering column apart and look into more sometime soon. Anyway...sorry for the long *** post, but hopefully that helped.
