What do Honda Tech racers think of sport compact powered dragsters?
Heard some talk that NHRA may create a class for sport compact powered dragsters.
What does everybody think, are dragsters cool? Would you drive one? would you like to see them race?
Does it have to be a full on, nitro powered, turbo deal or would you get excited about being able to put your motor in a economocal dragster and go racing in the 8 or 9 second area.
Would you like to see traction problems, broken azles, and trannys be a thing of the past?
Or is the car body just too important? Is the car platform a part of what makes sport compact drag racing interesting?

would this be a sportsman class as part of the lucas series
or a class as part of the xplod series?

Don Nase's dragster is awesome to see in person, would be even better running with similar competition. Side by side low 6 second rails... whats not to like?

Its really nothing new. there are tons of dragsters in comp eliminator that run "sport compact/import" motors. SO are you referring to have a class for the "EXTREME DRAGSTERS" like Don Nase Jr or something else???

I like the extreme class of dragsters, but I am more excited about allowing us regular racers to compete in a class for sportsman racers.
I am all for it. All you have to do is look at the costs of a dragster over building a full body car and you can see why the class would grow pretty quick. I know that I would put serious thought into building one if there was a class for it.

I agree, brand new rolling rails are not very expensive and can be purchased ready to go from most of the big name fabricators out there. Throw in the bulletproof drivetrain that can be adapted to those cars and the power 4 cylinders are able to make now-a-days and you have something fast and affordable to go racing with. Not to mention cookie cutter chassis/weight programs that make it a very compettive class.
If it were made an actual class with powerplants similar to whats allowed in Pro FWD I would be very interested in participating.

I see a weight by displacement rule. Since you get get them so light that would be a good way to go. I have a bunch of k-series motors just sitting here that would love to make some real power. My problem is that it would take a while to get 1600hp+ like a 2jz or the ecotec. I could run a smaller displacement while I get things sorted out. This way the car would still go pretty quick and you can work on the setup.

Well, Im not too sure if youd want to mix 4's with the 6's. I think if there were a class specific for 6 cylinders and a class specific for 4 cylinders that would help level things out significantly.

I am personally a fan of bodied cars, but if there was a class for it and I had to start fresh right now I would build a dragster no doubt. There are already a lot of them around, and it is super easy to find an existing chassis and do it fairly cheap. I know some guys were building their cars setup with 2 different rear sections that they can switch out...one with their V8 and one rear section with their SC motor. I think the class would take off eventually. I would be interested in 1400+hp dragsters though.

You can go from mild to wild. It would be some the cheapest pro cars today.

Wow, Look's like I asked a good question. This is something that I have been wanting to do, and I have a K24's that I could drop into one and be off and running. Sure would like to see the cubic inch to wieght deal, with maybe some rules to help control costs.

I think if the class didnt get out of hand, it would be worth it.
1. Spec tire size
2. Same Wheelbase
3. Weight
4. 4cyl separate from 6cyl.
5. Fuel limitations
The power and technology is there.. everyone can make it. its all on teh driver and crews that will make this class exciting.

There's no way you'll ever control costs. Whenever you create class regulations, there will be a big spender with a big sponsor waiting to capitalize on the class. That's the nature of the sport, and you can't stop it without issuing spec cars to everyone in the class which would be ultra boring.
Just bring on the new class and lets see what happens!
(I'm all for running 4 cylinder blown nitro, but that's just me....)

why would side to side racing be boring? If everyone had setups that were similar and competion was down to the driving skills and the tuning, it would be fun and exciting.
Its not a show-off competition who has what different parts on their car or not. Its who gets down to the track the fastest.

We can't even fill a Pro-Rwd class, why create another one thats all ***** out.

For those thinking about going this route...Nelson Hoyos is now a dealer for "Racetech" dragsters, so if your looking for a deal hit him up!!! He currently owns two of our cars... One to run the Extreme Series and the other for his driving school
