ZC SWAP ON 1989 CIVIC -- WHAT IS NEEDED?

Default ZC SWAP ON 1989 CIVIC -- WHAT IS NEEDED?

i'm new to technical stuff, so i wanted to know what exactly is needed to swap a JDM doch ZC engine into my hatch. i got a stock 1989 DX. will it need stuff like motor mounts or different axles?... will my stock tranny work with it? ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED! THANKS

direct bolt in but the gears in your trans are too long so go for an ex/si tranny

iv read that only 5th gear is longer in the dx trans. you can use your trans. your goign to have to wire for mpfi

Trust me, just search and read alot. Its not hard, I did it without any experience. But read, read, read. And replace your rear main before you put the new engine in, I learned the hard way :-/

Oh yeah, I thought of this today. The dx trans is fine for getting to 60 (where 2nd redlnes). 3rd and 4th are too steep for any serious acceleration, and 5th is well... a honda, too short (3k at 65). A Si trans is the exact same except a 4.25 final drive instead of the dx's 3.88.

Exactly. A DX and Si have the same gearing for each individual gear, just the final drive is higher in the Si. Higher gearing = better use of powerband and more acceleration. There's one guy locally here who dropped .6 of a second off his 1/4 mile time just by swapping an Si tranny into his DX.
