A basic paint job, yes, but if you were to get a paint job that was as detailed as the Skinz wrap can be, it would be VERY expensive!

Tony is exactly right. Those skinz wraps guys are awesome as hell. And a good custom paint job will run you in the neighborhood of $6,000-$12,000. i know because thats what i charge. Not only that. with the skinz wraps...if you dont like it down the road. you can peel it off and get something else done. or if you wreck your car. just get that vinyl replaced.

Try AUTOWRAP.ORG, he is in Toronto, ON, but might be a lot closer for a lot of the east coast, and northern US folks. Does some fantastic work, and has a graphic designer on staff.

depending on how elaborate it is. you are looking at anywhere from 3k-5k including artwork and design.

no one ever mentioned "custom paint job" but that is a different story. The more detail the more price. If that is the case then a wrap would definitely be cheaper and removable
5k seems to be a very high price for vinyl, there is a place here in NY that does it for less then $2500. He does everything tractor trailers, cars, work vans, petty much anything that has to do with laying vinyl. His work is top notch too.

Obviously they're talking about a custom paint job, who would want to wrap their crappy primered car with a one colour vinyl or some BS like that? You need to have a decent base to put the vinyl down on, so nobody is going to vinyl on a solid colour.

definately check out Vigg designs. they can do full wraps complete with custom artwork and graphics. it is alot of money for vinyl but you have to consider the expense in the design, the cost of the material (think about it its a giant photograph!) and someone experienced and patient enough to apply it you are definately ahead of the game vs a paint job.

i had mine done from wrapvehicles.com aka monstermedia in riverside, ca they have installers nationwide and can do the install in one day., also they have a real kick back staff so there very flexable. i had mine done for 2600.00 and w/ a 5 year warranty! i would call skinz as well they have done really good jobs as well.
i belive they use a non 3m vinyl which has a very nice glossy paint like material, the down side is that its horrible to take off, and you would have them come out and do it which is like 1k.-700 big price just to take it off. on the other hand mine is a 3m control tac which has a hex patern to it so it streches and shrinks in the sun. oh by the way i havent wash my car in over a year and a half!!! and it sits outside rain and shine and still looks great no water spots! it is laminated w/ uv crap or something along those lines....(shameless plug) removes very easily but will not come off like you think. so that saves me 1k right there. and to redo the wrap its much less the second time around. i already have a new sceme in mind for mid 07season!

they cover any oxidation and the life of the vinyl itself.i think they cover peeling and other things but its limited. as is any warranty but like i said there really cool, i called about 4 diferent places including skinz and they were the cheapest, and most of all very laid back to work with then the others. which makes my shy away . but they are all really good places. but if your looking to get a great job for an affordablr price and will be willing to work with the warranty issues, you cant beat that

The reason it costs so much is the equipment needed to print the design onto the vinyl. They start at about $10k for a Gerber Edge and go up from there. Roland also makes one a little cheaper but it is a print/cut machine and the resolution is not that great. Dye sublimation and pigmented inks makes it hold up outside. Same process you see in billboards.
The time to install these is another reason for the cost. It costs about $4-6 per sq ft for the shop to print them.

tracy the cost of equpitment shouldnt matter...thats the cost of doing buisness. there is no reason that dyno labor should be any more expensive than normal labor just because the machine is expensive. thats not fair to the end customer.
hahahaha somebody gave me that speach the other day and could not understand why dyno time was more than standard labor, since when your on the dyno you do less "work" and just "sit there and drive the car". i love people.
