Default Homemade HID

I'm pretty good with electronics, and was expeirimenting a while ago with a homemade flashing circuit, a car coil, and some cheap flash camera bulbs. I know real HID doesnt work just like that (they use the sodium bulbs or something) but i was hoping if i could get it to flash more than 60X per second it would look like an always on flash bulb.. pretty cool huh? haha well i ended up making some sort of "lightning tube" like you can buy at some gift shop. Has anyone tried making their own HID, not just modifing a system from another car? Im wondering if i could get it to work and modify the light housing to accomidate the new "bulb".

Im running silverstars right now and dont really care for anything better, but just for fun i was playing around with this stuff, because it would be super cheap if it worked right. I guess we'll see what happens.

I vote that you end up electricuting yourself before you make HIDs at your house.

What would be the use in this when you can just buy a 9004, 9005, 9006 HID bulb?

Economic relief?

Camera bulbs were only designed to last so many flashes. If you flash it continuously, you will reach the end of the bulb's lifetime very soon. You might even overheat the bulb and blow it up. Plus, I don't think that bulb will be bright enough.

Have faith man. We all know that electrical engineers sign up as trial users on HT to ask us questions. Duh.
