About the 1992-1996 2.4L Si
Since the 2.4L Si is SOHC Vtec, and makes less HP (160) than the 2.2L VTEC model, would it be possible to bolt the DOHC VTEC head onto the Si? Is it worht it, or should I just get the VTEC model to start with? Which engine is more reliable? I apologize if this is a stupid question.
unless i am totally wrong on this one, the prelude never had a 2.4 vtec or any type of motor. there were three grades for 92-96. the s model that had the accord sohc f series motor (crap), the 2.3 dohc non-vtec 160 hp si, and the 2.2 dohc vtec 190 hp motor. i believe the 2.4 sohc vtec is in a newer accord.
are you talking about the 92-96 prelude Si...its a h23 2.3l non-vtec (160hp)....i've never heard of a 2.4l sohc vtec or maybe i just dont know...

Well the 92-96 IS 2.4L, according to all car information sites (www.cars.com or http://www.carpoint.com), but yeah, I guess it isn't Vtec at all. Still, does anyone know whether the head from the VTEC model would fit, whether it's a common swap, how much the head would cost, or any kind of info about it?

I should have known that too! I just recently asked what years the VTEC came out on po.com, I think I got my info confused with what I read on hp.comBUT you are right VTEC did come out in 93

The 2.2L nonVTEC F22a from the 92-96 Prelude S shouldn't even be toyed with, just replace the whole motor.
The 2.3L nonVTECH23A from the 92-96 Prelude Si is a good motor, with some slight modifications you can bolt an H22A head onto it.
The 2.2L VTEC H22A from the 93-96 Prelude VTEC and the H22A4 from 97+ Prelude's is God. Bow to it. Make animal sacrifices to it. But don't change the head on it.
Thanks again, I was referring to the 2.3L nonVTECH H23A engine, and I wasn't clear on the subject, so I guess I misinterpreted some stuff. Anyway I did look at the link someone posted above and people did talk about the head swap as something to generally stay away from, and since I haven't got the car yet, I will be looking for either the nonVTECH 2.3 (because I like 4WS) Si or if I can find a 2.2L VTEC with 4WS that isn't a lot more expensive than the Si. Thanks for all your advice guys,
if anyone hears of the abovementioned cars being sold at a reasonable price in the New England/New York areas, please drop me a line. Thanks.

Stock...the Prelude VTEC Model never had 4ws...so if you really think you need it (which you don't by the way) do like the guy above said and Buy an Si 4ws and do an engine swap, it's not that hard. Get a JDM H22a with LSD!
Right like you know anything about prelude's BlueShadow
