Default Real Simple Question, almost stupid perhaps

just bought an Integra and i wanted to change the transmission fluid. Am I supposed to use motor oil in my tranny? The manual says so (its says motor oil 10w30), but I have been told there are synthetic oils specifically designed for the manual transmissions, such as MTL redline. On top of that when I asked someone at Canadian Tire , they pointed me to a bottle of Gear Lube, 75w90 or 90w75, something like that. Before I try anything does anyone have a little bit of info that could help me out, like am i supposed to use Motor Oil in my tranny? Or should I use that gear lube that has numbers much higher than standard motor oil?

If the tranny is smooth then go with honda MTF, if if feels a bit rough then go for the GM as it supposed to help with mild grinds.

Thanks for the input, I think I will go with Honda MT-whatever L of F?. Out of cusiosity, why do you think the guy at Canadian Tire recommended synthetic gear lube? Same thing as GM? or was he just plain ignorant or out of his mind?

He was thinking about gear lube for a GM or Ford, nothing close to what you own. Stick to your owners manual and run 10w-30 or Honda MTF. They are both the same and you have nothing to worry about.

GM Synchromesh is for GM cars. We drive Hondas. Please DONT go this route unless your gears are horrible and its your last resort. Synchromesh will and I KNOW from personal experience not just because I read the forums, ruin your bearings 100% alot quicker then 10w-30 or Honda MTF

GM Synchromesh will ruin your bearings... Been there, done that...

By the way... MTF = Manual Transmission Fluid
