Wheel studs too short?
I just got a new set of wheels on my car. They are 15" rota slips. After i put them on i noticed the studs dont come all the way through the lugs when they are fully torqued. They come like halfway through. Is it supposed to be like this? Is it safe?
I searched about it and found that you can get extended studs, but i read that they are not necessary..
98 gsr by the way.

Yeah sorry, they are open ended. They are probably 1/2 - 3/4 of the way on. Its just kinda scary. When i first put them on, i didnt notice that my old rims had those little plastic hub rings on them. One of the ones in the front was melted and flat and i didnt notice it. When i went to test drive it the lugs started to loosen and i starated to feel the car vibrate.
After i fixed that by taking out the ring, ive just been paranoid about it. Ive driven about 100 miles on them, and they are still tight. But that would royaly suck if my wheel fell off...

Sounds like you might have the wrong lugs for your rims. There are three different kinds:

I notice the same thing on my civic with rotas. I had the right lug nuts and they only threaded on about 1/2". I drove it that way for years on the street and autox's and had no problems. It always bothered me though so Ive upgraded to arp now.
They should be fine, just be sure to always use a torque wrench.

Ahh.. I didnt know this. Guess ill need to look and see. I had konigs on the car before i got the rotas. The lugs were round on the bottom and the slipstreams looked like the seats were round also, but i dint konw there was that tapered one. Maybe the lugs i have are round and the wheels are tapered.. anyone know what seat pattern rota slipstreams have?

Well in the FAQ it says that stock rims use the acorn style and aftermarket use the tapered style. So if i had konigs (aftermarket) and switch to rota's (aftermarket), then the lugs should be the same right?

Yeah if you went from aftermarket to aftermarket you should be fine (provided you had the right lugs on when you had the first set of aftermarket wheels on there). As someone else posted....if you can get 7 or 8 full turns on the lugs and have them torqued to the appropriate spec you will be fine
Im pretty sure i got at least 7 turns. I also used a torque wrench set at 80 lbs when i put them on. I think i might have torqued each one a little more than 80 though. Ill take one of them off and see how many turns it takes before its all the way on. Thanks guys.
