Default H22 shortblock+F23 SOHC head

Anyone ever done this? According to zeal autowerks calc it would produce around 10.5:1 CR single cammer.

Would anything special need to be done to the head or block to get it to work?

It probably has not been done. On the timing belt side fo the engine there are some oil drains that allow oil of the H23/H22 head drain oil back to the block and those ports are not on the F23 head. If you can find a H22/23 head gasket and compare to your F23 HG you will see what I am talking about. If you plug those drains you can swap the head no problem (except adapting the timing belt to he proper set of pulleys F23, H23 or H22)

So, block off ports in head, use F23 timing belt. What about timing pulleys, oil pump and water pump? Would thsoe need to be swapped out for F23 peices or will the H22 parts be ok to use?

from my comparison of block to block it owuld be most likley blocking off drain holes in the block.

no you have to block the oil ports on the BLOCK, and this is going to be more difficult because the holes are not uniform. when going from a f block to a H head the holes in the H head are smooth and round making for an easy insert of a plug.

you will have to use a f series oil pump and a f series water pump, h23/f22 lower timing belt gear and sohc timing belt

And the same if I were to use an F22 Vtec head? So the biggest problem will be plugging the holes in the block. If I cant use a plug, any suggestions on plugging those holes?

well in the case of the h head f block you have to plug cause it drains into nothing, but in the case of the f head h block i dont see a problem in leaving the holes open. i guess just use the f head gasket? these are all guesses...

BUT the BIGGEST question is WHY? in the case of h head f block it is a big upgrade. but putting a f head on a h block is a downgrade. i mean h22a1 has 10:1 and h22a has 10.6:1 so wont really gain anything there. you will lose however in the breathing department.

if its u just got a f head laying around, pm me i have an extra h22 head laying around. hell i have a turn key full swap im bout to sell...

Cool, thanks for all the info.

Use the F22\23 HG or the H22 HG?
