I need one of the stock looking mufflers that are nicer sounding then the turbo performance muffler i got.

What makes the mufflers low ?


It seems that the cheaper mufflers are all high pitched loud raspy oners.

So what is there out there that sounds nice and loud and is cheap ? Note muffler only

 

You can go to autozone and get a glasspack for like 20 bucks..

What I would do is get an OBX off ebay and do custom 2 1/4 piping.. They sound real good.

 

i got a dynomax super turbo muffler for cheap and it doesn't sound high pitched at all and i have a straight pipe too...but it does crack a bit sometimes but nothing really noticeable...but when i do get the 2" piping, i'm going to put the cat converter back on to reduce the smell, pollution, and to keep that low, subtle grumble...

 

who makes OBX. do glass packs sound good?? Like a cherry bomb or just a small glasspack

 

yeah i have a flow tech muffler at the moment. It is a raptor or something. I bought new 2.25" pipe that is 10 ft long and 3 mendrel bent U's. Once I weld up the new piping with no cat or resonator Im going to put it on.

See what I was wondering if I should get a new one that sounds better cause this one aint loud at all but do you think that will change after no cat or resonator and actually put a tip. Or do you think buy another muffler or a glasspack.

 

That looks nice how much did you pay??

IS it really lopud and rumbles the road. can you really hear it ????

mines pretty quiet but having a turbo,its like having a second muffler

 

I was also thinking of welding in a Y pipe that has one of the channels blocked off that you can open up for straigh out design for the track. Ill put it tight behind the header.

 

So is it loud tho. And how mcuh did you pay for it. Is there any other place to buy one then off ebay???

 

this moves hella fast. How much is the dynomax super turbo muffler. I saw a dynomax supper turbo at lordco autoparts for 60cdn or 40 US is this the one???

 

get the obx, i got mine from massivemotorsports.com, like $90 on special, with 2.25 custom piping it sounds great. Very low tone, and comes with removable silencer

 

the money your going to spend on a muffler and having it put on you could just save for another week or 2 and by a nice cat-back system!! trust me i had a nasty ractive race style muffler with 2.5" pipe that woke everyone up in the middle of the nite!! then i got a thermal exhaust which its so quit and low sounding i smile every time vtec kicks on because instead of ratteling my brain i get the baaaaaBBAA of the vtec!! its well worth the wait!!

 

Just to let you know i do ALL work on my car myself and im a competant machinist I can shurly put on a exhaust sytem i just dooont want to spends all this money on brand name mufflers that is all

 

yeah 60 cdn is about right but all together with installation cost me like 142 cdn with gst and pst.

i also got a tip installed so i don't know i'll check if i still have the receipt for the real price.

and this is before i got the res and cat taken out...then it made some noise...but nothing too loud.

i was so stupid back then...i should've just got the whole piping done but instead i came back twice just to get res and cat taken off and have uneven piping diameter.
they replaced the res and cat with like 2" pipes and the rest of the piping is stock...so the flow got worse when i did this and it still the same to this day but i'm getting the whole thing done real soon though.

you might wanna check out the dynomax ultra flo muffler (i think thats what its called) it has a straight through design but i'm not sure if its glass packed or not.

the super turbo flows well but it has baffels inside so its not straight through

 

OK i will do cause this is what i have so far:

2.25" aluminum piping 10 ft 30
3 mendrel ebnt U's at 2.25" 90
magnaflow exhaust tip 40

now i just need a muffler

 

I just went to Jegs and Got a Flowmaster Deltaflow Street Muffler for like $72, It's not too loud, sounds kind of like a small block v-8 at idle. but then once you get going, especially in high rpms it pretty loud, but not too loud. And it doesn't sound too ricey as compared to some exauhst systems.

 

why not use a magnaflow muffler, we just put a magnaflow catback on a 95gsr and it sounds great... looks just like a thermal. good construction, deeper sound. your local lordco should have one to suit your needs.

 

Ok well here is an update I spend all night welding etc.:

2.25" I.D. aluminum pipe from downpipe back. All bends are mendrel 2.5" O.D.. It fit pretty well. I got a megnaflow exhaust tip with that.

I just kept my original muffler untill it is all set up then ill see if I like it or not. It is smaller then most mufflers so I wont half to have 10000000 welds..

It is a flow tech raptor turbo muffler w/ 2" in/out. We will see how it sounds.

Anyone ever heard a flowtech RAPTOR muffler w no cat or res.

BTW i started my car up with only downpipe on. HOly sheeeeeeeeeet tht is loud when youfloor it to 6500 RPM hahaha
