Default First time with fixing drums.

I'm changing both rear wheel cylinders and installing a new MC, and bleeding my brake systems tomorrow. I'm sure the drums are going to **** me off but I have a question. Is it possible to take the hub off without air tools? It seems like removing the hub allows easier access to the drum.

I have a chilton manual but the pictures are extra light, does anyone have a step by step removal/installation process for drums?

Lastly, do I install the new MC first(bench bleed) them remove the wheel cylinders, and then bleed the entire system?

Wait, why take off the hubs to access the drums? Do you mean the parts under the drum like the springs and all?

^ Yes it looks alot easier to access everything without that hub in the middle. It must be a hard process to take off without air tools.

It is kinda tough but not hard at all. I hate replacing the brake shoes on drums but I can still do it without taking the hub off, trust me it is less work in the longrun.

I would not remove the hubs unless you are replacing them..
You are just creating work for yourself..

To get the cap off,use a hammer and flat chisel...
To get the nut off,You have to uncrimp the outer shell
and then use a 32mm or 1 1/4" socket..

Make sure you have a good set of Vise-Grips for removing and reinstalling the springs in the drums. Im sure there are other ways to do it, but these work best for me.

Why would you remove the hub?? It is not that hard to service rear drums... if you are not confident about your self doing it then bring it to someone who does.. with the right tools it shouldn't take you any time at all to do it
