Default Cobalt drag build

Dealing mostly only hondas for as long as I have messed with cars there is no denying that the new cobalts are badass. I have seen the orange one running NDRA and its sweet. But I was wanting to know how much it costs to build one. I mean performance parts coming from the dealer CANNOT be cheap or maybe affordable. Anyone that has built one or know someone I would appreciate the help. I havent really seen any chevy sport compact forums like honda-tech. That auto tranny is just too sweet.

You could probably build the Orange car for somewhere in the 35-40K range. If you sit back and think about what you have in your own cars, not that bad.

If you are serious we can give you plenty of info and directions you want to go.
Basicaly all the componets are similar to any other build....

price of the platform, used or new?
fabriaction, from motor mounts, to roll cage, seats, other safety items etc,,,
suspension wheel and slick combo wheel studs, etc...
ecotec engine is similar to any other build, rod, pistons etc..
drivetrain 4t65 is similar to what you would spend on a twin disc , spare trannies quaife, other drivetrain mods, but will hold up for many season if taken care of....
electronics, engine management, ignition ,gauges, etc...
fuel system
custom turbo setup.....

there is way more to it, that is just a general list, but similar to any list people start on a fresh build. the only extra cost is the hydra matic trans, and maybe if you purchase a new cobalt.... the hydramatic is 6g's prepped from gm racing, I think that is a steal..... if any one wants a parts list on were to start to build something like brians cobalt feel free to contact me.....

Well mostly I was wandering if people are using the GM heads or if they are doing there own, and things like that. Do these motors have to be sleeved? Is the hydramatic a different tranny than the 4t65 or is it the stock cobalt tranny already race built?
I guess really I am just interested in the cost on the "hard parts" like heads and I was thinking pistons and rods were probably about $1500 or so.
I have shot you a PM.

That is a smoking deal, its 3K to do my auto in the colt and that does not even include the cost of the trans. Even if you don't like GM or the cobalts at least its nice to see a manufacture suporting the sport and car enthusist.

I see that some things can only be purchased by "race teams" like the sleeved block. So who is a "race team" I dont suppose I could go up there and say " I am going to drag race it in xxxx series" and they allow me to buy it?
