V6 6MT 3rd gear sync issue
Saw this thread elsewhere and wanted to post it here on a forum that gets more traffic:

7th gen V6 accord, mines a 05, this guys is an 06, both have the same issue...3rd gear doesn't always fully sync...sometimes its like the last 1/4 inch I hit a wall when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. Sometimes it will do it repeatedly all day long , other days, it will shift like butter...almost seems like when its cooler out (50-65 ish), the issue is worse.
Its madenning because its unpredictable, and if you let the clutch out if you've hit that "wall", the shifter will bounce back into your hand and then back into the 3rd with some nasty grinding.
Dealer pulls the usual "can't reproduce it so I can't fix it" crap, but obviously this is more than a single instance since I stumbled across this guys thread.
ideas?

It could be a number of things... Bad synchro (which i doubt since you have a relatively new car), tranny fluid, clutch, it could even be your driving style.
Im going to say it has something to do with your tranny fluid. In colder climates and operating temperatures, the fluid tends to be much thicker. Its not after you've let the car warm up to normal driving temperature that the tranny fluid is a little more to its normal viscosity. The only thing I can say you try to do is change the tranny fluid.

Whats interesting is I jumped into the Acura TL forum since these cars share the same manual tranny (accord is minus the lsd though
), and found someone with the same issue as well....i think i'm going to call honda or even an acura dealer and do some more investigation / raising hell. 3 instances so far and my wife also expriences the problem in my car can't be driving style...its just too random.

Im my 2006 MT, when in 4th gear the shifter vibrates. Took it back to Honda when the car had 106 miles on it. They said, "Normal Honda thing, way the car was designed" They wouldn't let me drive another one to see if it did it because they did not have any MT's in stock as they sell so fast.
Can you feel anything if you cruise in 4th?

If it's what I think it is, then it's possible that a minor cable adjustment will fix what you are experiencing.
I described what I was experiencing (and it sounds a lot like what you're talking about) to the service manager at a large Honda dealer, and he suggested a cable adjustment because it had solved similar issues on other 6-6 Accords.
Warranty would cover it.
I have not done this yet because it's not that big a deal to me. I can tell as I'm shiting up that I am about to experience it, and I just slightly increase the shifting pressure to get it to seat properly.
If it's what I am talking about, it's not syncro related at all.

This is making me wish I had gotten the Lexus IS350 instead. I bought this because we don't have local lexus dealer and I didn't want to drive 2 hours to a town I absolutely hate everytime I needed it serviced but I'm wishing I had more and more now. I just hope I don't have any problems with mine and I hope they step up and fix yours. I think this will be my last Honda. I know I said that last time but I actually liked the old one other than it being slow. This fixxed the slow problem but thats about it. I'm not sure if I would get another one.
no vibration in 4th, smooth as butter in all gears...only issue is that 3rd is crunchy and unpredictable, since day 1. And the amount of force that it takes to get it into 3rd gear when I hit that wall is very excessive, i've tried it several times and it isn't a pretty feeling when it finally goes in.
