Great pic, that is exactly what i always set mine to, but for some reason with these cams, when i am at TDC 1, my dizzy rotor is pointing more towards the #3 wire in your pic, I actually need a pictire with the Distributor cap off actually! so i can see the positon of the rotor when all the timing marks are at TDC for #1 so i can compare to what i have and see where i am off, and if possible a picture also like that with the dizzy pulled out, so i can see the dizzy shaft slot in the intake cam to see what degree it is sitting at.

when at top dead center the distributor should point to number one in the picture above. once more make sure your timing belt is correct. mine was one tooth off on the exhaust cam and it ran like **** and wouldnt idle. but double check that and make sure you have the car on TDC where its actually making compression rather then 180 degrees out. hope i helped. i reccomend you get a haynes manual. without it i would have gotten nowhere.

i am deffiantely at TDC #1 on a compression stroke. Even if i was a tooth off, which i am not, it would still run, just like ***. It wont run at all, because the spark timing is so off, about 30 degress retarded. I think the cams are a bad grind, Because when i am set at TDC # 1 my rotor points to the # 3 location on the cap. Comp Cams said there was a posiblitly the could have ground the keyslot wrong. I even tried advancing all my plug wires one position ahead. So the #1 was at 3 , #3 was at 4 etc. Have Haynes and Chilton manuals for ages.
