Default Do I need a heat-sheild?

I am putting headers in my 94 Accord EX tomorrow to replace the cracked manafold. Obviously the OEM heat shield will no longer bolt on when I do this. What are my alternatives? Do I even NEED one or would I benifit from one (other than not burning self as easily)?

You could use header wrap but no... a heatshield is not necessary

Header wrap... that is exactly what I needed to know. Thanks - I didn't know there was such a thing, but figured there must be SOMETHING like it.
Does it sound like I contradicted myself?

that's alright..haha

my oem headsheild have two layers, the inner layer is the heat retaining material the upper/outter layer is just a metal shield so you can't touch the hot stuff.

you can't use it on your new header since there's no mounting holes.

be very very careful about header wrap, alot of people crack their header and have rust because of the wrap. unless you have a quality Stainless Steel header with good welds, don't use it.

what brand is it?

most of the weld today is machine tig weld, some is better than other, but alot of ebay read SS chrome exhaust part is done by hand, you can tell by the shitty joints they have.

if you have ceramic coat, don't use it, it will proabably rust below the collector.

That is a nicer header than I got... mine doesn't have ceramic.

So just to clarify on the heat shield issue.... I do NOT NEED one? That will be much prettyier All wires and hoses that are close won't be damaged?

I'm willing to bet a paycheck that 90% or more guys out there with an aftermarket header do nothing more than bolt it on and go... including myself I've never had any problems and neither should you.

Different cars have different configurations. If they're not too close, don't worry about it.

You could look for that corrugated aluminum tube loom that comes on the AC hoses of some cars. Otherwise, you could just wrap aluminum foil around the hoses that go near the exhaust manifold.

Or, like I did with my Integra when I got a header... just leave it unwrapped.

94s I think may have the same set up as my 90, and the A/C lines run right across the middle of the radiator in the back

What Brand Header Do you have?

A high Quality Header from DC,hks, borla, greddy.. etc

those are all high quality headers made of stainless, perfect tig welds,

Also SOME ebay headers are pretty well constructed

you dont necessarily need a heatshield. the main purpose of the heatshield is to keep the heat of the header. The way engines are designed, air will travel out the engine faster if it's hot. Therefore, you wanna keep the header hot so that exhaust flows smoothly. If you're not a big power pumping person, then dont worry about it, but if you're looking to earn that extra few hp? i suggest you find some way to shield that header with heatshield, wraps, or coat it

I agree with No heat shield and no wrap on the headers. I bought a quality header and the wrap forces the heat down to the joints and they burn out.

I used a heat wrap on the AC hoses running close to the header after installation
