My CRX and it's new heart.....
Yup, yanked the old motor out and swapped in the B16A. It went really well except for a coulple of minor problems. I was an idiot and didn't replace the clutch, and now I'm paying the price. Clutch is slipping like crazy at higher rpms. But even then, you can really feel how hard this car pulls. FUN, FUN, FUN. MANY thanks to my friend Abe. Thanks for putting in the wrench time with me man. I couldn't have done it without you.....or maybe I could...but I certainly wouldn't have finished in a weekend!!! Here's some pictures for your viewing pleasure....
The new heart (a little dirty...but not bad)

Pulled the head and cleaned up the pistons.....

Cleaned up the head a bit too....

The valve cover after I cut and painted it....

Stock motor

Bye bye piece O' crap.....

Almost as scary as an intercooler....hehehe

New vs. Old....

Now that's what I'm talking about....

The finished product...

Comments/compliments/as well as constructive criticism welcome.

Very nice...should have replaced that clutch when you had the chance and whe it would have been simple.
j/k Anyway it looks like a very clean install...which mount kit did you use??

Even though it's been asked twice I will ask as well. What mount kit did you go with. I think that is one of the cleaner installs that I've seen. Good luck on the clutch replacement, and have a blast.

I used the HCP 4 point mount kit and adjustable shift likage. I like the kit....gives good hood, ground, firewally, and radiator clearance. Easy to install with a couple of modifications to the front and rear crossmember as well as pounding in the "clearance" dent for the alternator. But it transfers a LOT of vibrations into the cabin. I'm not sure if all mount kits are like this....but WOW. The motor doesn't move at all. It's crazy
.
I paid $1750 for the motor complete with uncut harness, PS, AC compressor, PR3 ECU, J1 tranny, and HCP mount kit (including the linkage). I pulled the tranny and the clutch didn't look bad.....oh well.....
! I have a new clutch ready to go in now. I've only owned this car for about 6 months, it still needs a lot of work. Especially the interior. But it's a 89 Si that I picked up for $2000 in good running condition.
While I had the motor out I put in some ITR valve springs and some Toda Spec A cams. As well as using a 2 layer head gasket to up the compression a bit. You can tell it's fast. But I really need to put that clutch in.
Thanks for the compliments guys. If you want to see more pictures of the swap as well as pictures of my other installs/cars, feel free to peruse my imagestation account. http://www.imagestation.com/member/i...ml?name=G2guru

Yep the HCP mounts rattle the car like a ****. It will get better with time, my car has settled down alot, just from driving on the car with the mounts.
Nice job on the swap

hey man don't give the SOHC motor the thumbs down.
i'm sure you had fun when you had that Si motor in there.
those motors can keep up with the B16 civics pretty well.
my friend has a stock 90 Si with just an intake and kept up to a B16 civic
then second gear the B16 pulled away cuz of its top end.
but hey nice setup and relatively cheap. up here in canada, we gotta pay almost 4000 including a shitty install
Nice Dplatt
, the valve cover turned out really well too, probably one of the better ones Ive seen. You still working on that Integra? Last I remember which has been a while you just put that "poor man's ITR set-up in there. I didn't even know you had a Crx.

Yeah...the SOHC motor did me good while I had it. But I like the B16A MUCH better. Minus the vibrations
. But I hear that all of the mounts do that (HASport, Place Racing, etc.).
I know yellow isn't most peoples style. But I like it. When the car is blue, it will look very good in there. But thanks for your constructive criticism. I take it all in stride
.
The J1 Tranny is great on the freeway. Car has loads of power and because of the light weight, it just screams away. It really makes me want to do more to the suspension. Right now all I have is Neuspeed Sport Springs. I have ES Rear trailing arm bushings on order because the stock ones are all torn up. I think I'd like to pick up some good shocks and some anti sway bars. Maybe throw on some Integra brakes
.
I still have my Teg. I recently put some Volk SE37K wheels on it and a JUN Header. I'm hoping to run a mid to low 13 second quarter in it this year with a set of new slicks. Time will tell. Still haven't had a chance to get it to the dyno. Hopefully soon.
Thanks again for all of the compliments/comments guys. I appreciate them all

on the swap. hows the adjustable linkage doing for ya? feels loose? also hcp mounts will vibrate a lot b/c of their polyurathane bushings, their harder than rubber. turbo that thing
hcp mounts are key for turbos. theres a reason you can fit a 2nd radiator in there behind the 1st one
what year is your d16a6? i may want the tranny if your parting out that motor. that b16 is clean as hell whered you pick it up from?

I have noticed this too. I have had my HCP kit for over a year and either I am used to the vibration or it has settled.
dplatt, one word...turbo
