I am doing this swap regardless of what people think
ok I am putting a sr20 motor into a 88-91 civic hatch. I understand that there is easier swaps but im not going for the bolt in approach. I have the full ability to customize this swap but I have ran into some design issues that I would like to try to clear up before I start this winter project. Ok so the only problem that is apparent is clearing my steering rack seems impossible how can i get around this. I have all the rear wheel conversion figured out its not a problem. I have room for my rad and shifter. the gas tank is relocated. I will whip up a custom carbon fiber hood. keep in mind that I can make anything fit on this car. any help would be aprreciated. thanks.
Why not use a FWD SR motor?

because i am trying to make a name for myself and the shop i work out of. I dont want this to be easy. as far as all my research has returned nobody has ever pulled this off ( well as far as the internet is concerned ). and yes i will have picks of every step of the way.

I still think the FWD will be enough a hassle but an extra

+1 on the Bluebird SR. Even swapping this in a Sentra is no walk in the park. I think an SR in an EF is stupid, there are many other ways to be different without being stupid.

yes this is an exessive amount of fabrication for one project. so call it bs or whatever the hell you want but this will be done in one way shape or form. so be patient and wait for photos. still waiting on a decent shell. and motor but this car will be on the streets come june. its just a matter of time.

No offense, but anyone with the skill/means/knowhow to make this work would not get on Honda-Tech.com and ask how to do it. IMO, if you are dead set on doing a FR setup, use the S2K drivetrain. I'd respect you a lot more, and it'd have as much power as that SR all motor. It's been done, but it takes a lot of money/time/skill.

Just use a Pinto rack and place it in front of the engine, fab up a steering shaft for it. (standard street rod stuff!)
You will have to modify the spindles for the attachment of the steering ball-joints, but that shouldn't be that hard in light of all the other stuff you think you can pull off.
You've said that you want to do the project in order to make a name for your self. Why not put together something that others would like to see.
I'd rather see a K motor in the back of a CRX done cleanly! Pay to have the rear suspension geometry designed by a professional. Then go out and do laps against a Lotus Elise.
If you could match the handling, I'd be impressed.

sounds like a headache to me. You sound pretty confident so good luck. I hope who ever is involved with this swap has knowledge of frames/unbodies and lining up of drive shaft/pinion angles etc.

because i dont know what steering rack would fit or the steps to take to make one fit elsewhere. maybe I have brutal short term memory but I dont remember posting that I am a genious that knows it all. Because I dont but I do have an extremely good idea of what needs to happen on this build. the steering was the only cloudy question. I have the answers i need thanks for everyones imput.
k on your side i have seen an sr20 in a del sol a while back for sale on ebay. The guy said it was an absolute pita. If your going to run fwd imagine the fun linkage ,mounts ,axles and clearances are going to be. RWD isnt going to be a cake walk as well. The easiest way to do it just like everybody else said is tube it.
