new head unit blows out speakers...no music in car
today i bought an alpine 7893 head unit from circuit city.(free installation) it has a 60x4 built in amp..similar to the cta1505 unit i had on my bmw...(55x4 amp). so they install it in my dc2 and tell me everything is cool...when i get in the car and put a cd in no sound comes out. so the guy tests out the speakers then he says "your left front speaker is pretty bad man i would be careful...thats why its turning off..cuz it shuts down all the other speakers" ...i was like "whatever" and drove off, i didnt max out the volume but was tryin to listen to it at a good level..then the left front speaker started tweekin out! sounded like a radio transmission from mars...then all the sound shuts down. now whenever i turn it back on the left front speakers(component set) start making weird noises..and it shuts down again.
i will have to get a new component set tomorrow...which sucks.

no...i bought the wire harness so it was pretty much plug and play. and it was working for a while before he even gave me the car back...for about ten minutes.
Well, if you still have stock speakers I'm sure 60 watts will blow those away!... Sounds like your one speaker blew and is shorting out, causing the amp to shut down. Time to upgrade all four speakers with ones with higher power ratings (and less distortion). Cerwin Vega makes some nice ones that I've replaced all mine with. Try www.crutchfield.com for some info and prices!
Go to crutchfield to see whats' available but don't buy from them, way too expensive.
This is a good excuse to invest in a decent pair of speakes. I recommend Infinity Kappa, I've had great luck with my speakers.

Forget about that 60x4 rating, that's max power output. Find out what the headunit's amp puts out RMS, and find speakers than can handle that much power RMS (continuous power). I know the stock Integra front speakers are rated at like 30W max, probably about 12W RMS or so.
Same thing happened to me....but dont rule Crutchfield out. I am returning my speakers there on my way home from school today. Their customer service and return policy is awsome.

Circuit city installation quality is absolutley horrible. They dont give a crap about your car. if your looking for really sharp and clear speakers id recomend MB quarts, i have them in my gsr.. sounds great
i would go and check all the wiring, even if a speaker blew out... as for speakers i'm partial towards Boston Acoustics
i'd have to agree w/ MoneynHoes... Circuit city installers (at least the ones I've seen) dont care about the car and their install jobs are kinda whack.. Im sure some ofyou guys read about their alarm install in my friends car in the audio/security forum.... anyway the original poster said he had components.. are these the stock components/mids and tweets... or aftermarket components? recheck all the wiring and if their the stockers this is a great excuse for you to replace them w/ MB Quart, Boston Pros, Infinity Kappas, DynAudio, Focals or any good speaker... good luck..

I will agree that Circuit City did a half@$$ job on my first stereo and speakers I bought back in 1996. But I bought an alarm from there last summer and did not have the time or the facilities to install it myself so I just had them do it... they seemed to have done a pretty good job.
Something sounds wrong. I have the Alpine 7876 rated at the same 60W x 4 Max...there should be no reason for your speakers to blow from that low of amplification. I've used my stock speakers (which really suck BTW) for a while and the only thing I couldn't do was turn up the volume very high. Take out the HU and see that everything is correctly wired up.
keep taking it back to get a decent answer, go to a different circuit city if you have to. IF the switched a wire up or something like thatr then its there problem, not yours. Also, if you speakers are indeed shot....which just from listening you cant tell what degree of "worn out" they are unless they are indeed damaged. SUch as cracked or borken surrounds. Speakers can indeed wear out, but to hear that you need to listen at high volume levels to detect problems. Low to moderate levels dont show indication of problems. Unless...you are comparing the speaker to one exactly like it in new or original condition reciving the same signal and power in a controled envioronment.......ie the Roadshop cant just take a quick listen at a moderate volume and say "yeap, speakers are shot you need new ones. Might i remcomend the Alpine/Infinity/Brand X that we have on sale for $150per. And while your at it i storngly recomend the use of dynomatting and bass blockers to get the best performance from your investment, and not to forget since we are already charging you to the tune of a small student loan you definatly wanna garantee the performance from the day you purchase these speakers from 4 years with our Performance Service Plan."------sound familar, well thats the crap they make you memorize and live when you work there, i know cause i use to. hated it.
However, i have also worked at Best Buy where i found the guys generally more knowledgeable and a TON more caring about your stuff. They dont get paid based on what they sell. Consider these guys for your speaker purchase if you decide you need them. Last time i was in the carried CV, RF, Pioneer, and i think Alpine.
Hope this helps.

ok heres the deal. i went and picked up a set of JL VR (they were on sale for 200,regularly 350) that my friend at work recommended.(car audio enthusiast)then i take them to another shop to get it installed(i know a guy there and he does good work) i didnt think it was a big deal to get it installed at circuit city since it came with free installation...then my friend at the other shop says circuit city installers dont know ****, and he will look over their install to make sure everything was wired correctly. also i decided might as well finish off the audio so i got a 10" sub and a 500 watt amp
to complement the head unit and component set. ill pick my car up in about two hours.
