See you later RX-8, Hello S2000.
So. I just traded in the RX-8 for a S2000. I had a miata before the RX-8, loved it, always wished it had more ***** though. Well... I test drove the S2000... and I found exactly what i wanted when i had the Miata. I get it in about a week. Then the process of transformation will begin. Hello JDM Concepts....
I live close to Autobacs, I see they have a new line "ASM" for their champion S2K drift car. Cool stuff... WICKED Pricey though... Right now I am still deciding which way to go, FI/SC/NA.... And where to start, Suspension, Performance, or Body... I'm looking to start with suspension, etc... since the FI/SC/NA options are going to require a couple months of saving... especially the SC kits... good god 5g's...
congrats. if you want more power for cheap, you can always go greddy ultimate emanage and get a tune
30whp of torque is nice
and as for the suspension, i would learn how to drive well on the stock suspension before you change anything. its damn good from the factory. and if you want more low end push, get gears, 4.77. and as for FI, if you want an easy form of power to bolt on, go s/c.

Yeah, the RX-8 was fun... But then I had it dynoed.... Mazda told a little fib. I dynoed at 181 RWHP with Bonez test pipe, Greddy SP@ Exhaust and K&N Intake. Not to mention the recalls on it kept piling up.. and it was a 04' so yeah... Sweet car... needed a few more years to work out the kinks and not tell a tall tale about the HP before they released it. S2K is just a sexy car all around, nuff said
2002 All black, MT 2.0l with 0 miles (Fresh motor from the factory, the origional had 40k and popped when the oil pump went out @ 70mph on the 15). I get it back in a week. Warranty is paying for it. It's very clean, and completley BONE stock 2002. Well.. not BONE It has motegi 17's.

- 4.77 gears are good, but you do lose overall top speed, not sure if thats an issue with you or not. also have the option of 4.56/7 and 4.44.
- If you end up planning on going boost, don't get 4.77 gears, they are way to much for FI applications.....4.56/7 are even pushing it.....
- I'd pass on the greddy emanage, there are much better stand alone management systems out there.... AEM EMS, Motec, and even the HKS f-con is better then the greddy system...
- suspension, it's up to you.... you can learn to drive the car the way it is stock, and then get suspension and relearn the new characteistics of the car.. or you can jump into it now and learn the car with new suspension componenets.......... i personally think it's better to learn to drive the car stock before doing suspension mods, this way you can tune the suspension to your personal needs and driving. style.

I will def. Keep all that in mind, thanks.
On a related note... I used to be a member of the RX8 forum... (when I had an 8)
If i would have posted this same topic (above) I would have been flamed out for being a "lame n00b" or some such. I appreciate the fact that people in here at least so far seem to be a little more even keeled.

-for the gears, you can always swap them out later on when he goes FI for lower ones, like 4.1's
-emanage was mentioned because its wayyy much cheaper to use than AEM EMS and there have been plenty of emanage systems that run 400WHP+ on s2ki.net

doing gears isn't a simple bolt on affair, there's quite a lot involved in doing a gear setup , not to mention the money involved. if there's future plans on boost, the gears should be scratched off the list in my opinion. and the stock gears are 4.1's..
as for the emanage.... i much rather get the hks f-con for $700

+1 for learning to drive w/ stock suspension first. i've owned my S for 1.3 years and i finally just bought some coilovers.
FD gears will honestly give most bang for buck if your a "go fast" type.

you quoted a wrong quote
but yea, from what ive learned, its better to learn how the S handles stock and actually KNOW your car before you try to "make it better" with any type of suspension mods

how much do you have to spend on suspension? the stock suspension is very good on the s2k, you will want to mod it wisely if you do so.
as for power.. i am used to faster vehicles. i ordered 4.77 gears and a comptech supercharger with aftercooler to give me the quickness i'm looking for
i dont do much highway driving so 4.3/4.56 etc is not worth it to me, the 4.77's will be quicker and give back the low end that the sc takes away.

nope i didn't...i was laughing at him saying you could swap it out for lower ones such as 4.1....which is oem. a lower one than 4.77 would be 4.57 etc blah blah blah im bored WHOPDEDOOO
by the way i've spent 1400 on suspension and ZERO on engine. x-brace and upper tie bar and coilovers FTW.
