Default so this must be the crap people are talking about when dealing with insurance pay off

if any of you remember, my 00 PY ITR was jacked a few months ago.. found completely stripped.

well insurance is handling it.. and i just found out right now they are only paying 9k for it.. wtf.. i dont think you can even buy a LS for that much

does that even sound remotely close? they arent covering aftermarket parts, cause i guess they dont.. but it was pretty much stock so its not a big deal.. so i need to call the insurance later today..

how much should i be trying to get? its a 2000.. and been in 1 accident (not at fault) but was repaired to like new..

What you need to do is find ITR's for sale and bring them a bunch of examples of the current prices to replace it. Tell them you'll gladly have them find one for you and see what they say

since they are located in texas (i think thats it)... basically.. nowhere near me..

should i fax them stuff? or email it? im guessing it should for other Rs that go for in this area, but would getting national listings be alright too? theyre about the same either way.

thanks

With a car with low production numbers, you going to have to go nationally. Call them and ask how they would like you to present them the information. GL. Don't settle. They need to give you replacement value of the car, or find you another one.

Search autotrader and print out every ITR you can find. I would even print off for sale ads from here and ITRCA.com. You cant find an ITR for 9,000 unless it is a salvage title and even then its tough. Good luck man.

Are you kidding !! You can't buy an ITR shell for $9k !! I agree with everyone else.. take the time to gather up as many sale ads and build up your case. Obviously, your insurance will do everything they can to pay off as little as possible so its up to you to fight it.

Good luck dealing with them. We dealt with those companies about another issue on my wife's car and they are both idiots, especially Balboa.

I would fight it, when I totalled my itr last year they first offered me $14,000 and I said no. I had just paid $20k for it 6 months earlier so I proved it was worth that by finding auto trader ads that were for the same year, around the same mileage and in cali. They ended up giving me what I paid for it.

yea thats what i did when mine got stolen.....Tell the insurance to go find u the exct same car for $9000. You cant even buy a Gs with that money.

the whole point of insurance is for them to give you what it would cost you to buy the same car that is similar in condition

I work for USAA in the claims department and i know they go by fair market value by using Autosource, a program that searches for vehicles based on year, model and with similar mileage being sold in your immediate area. Since the Type R is rare, and hard to find in good condition they may have to expand their search to surrounding cities, and/or states.
Basically your getting the short end of the stick, and your aftermarket stuff may be covered just as long as its not used for racing, or car show purposes(keep in mind all insurance companies work differently, and there are differences in the contracts as well).

little off topic......
Walker111, you may want to call USAA for an auto rewrite quote because as of 10/29/06 we will be using different criteria for insurance Quotes. I just saved 200$ every 6 months on my policy, check into it </TD></TR></TABLE>

What is this new criteria. I too have USAA and will definantly check into it. Please PM me with the details. Thanks.
