Default starting problems

For some reason, when I turn the key to the start position, all I hear is a loud thunk, no start. This happened after driving through some pretty large puddles. I have found though that if I pop one of the wires off and then back onto the starter it starts fine, untill I turn it off again. Any ideas? Could water have damaged any of thewires leading to the starter?

Open up your distributor cap and check for moisture or water in there. If there is any, dry it out with some compressed air. Also check where the spark plugs go for any water.

Are you running a cold air intake? If so you might be looking at funeral arrangements for your engine.

I am running a stock intake, I will check the distributor and spark plug area. It seems to run pretty well when I did get it started, I drove to an from school a few times (25 miles) when I could manage to get it running. Water was above my hood at one point durring my drive, the wake from a speeding oncoming suv made a large wave that crashed upon my hood and windshield. The power was out (no working street lamps) and I didn't realize how deep the water actually was until I was in it. I have driving maybe 100 hundred miles since this, I was hoping and under the impression that hydrolocking or major damage from water intake would have caused the engine to die by now?

Stock intake? then hydrolock shouldnt be an issue.
