What the hell?? I can't find a suitable bench bleeding kit anywhere. I'm hoping to change my brakes this weekend, so I can't really order one online. I don't have extra set of brakelines either.

I can't even find ANY master cylinder bench bleed kit from autozone, pepboys, nor kragen.

I hope I won't have to bleed the brakes forever since I can't bench bleed.

 

What is a bench bleed kit and why does it require extra lines to change your brakes?

 

oh i'm doing a complete disc brake swap. so I'm also swapping out my 13/15" master cylinder to the ex/si 7/8" unit. you're supposed to bench bleed the master cylinder before going to to bleed your brakes the usual way.

It involves routing the ports from the m/c directly back to the reservoir. By bench bleeding the master cylinder first, you rid the m/c of any air that is trapped in the piston. If you don't bench bleed the m/c first, you'll be bleeding your brakes forever.

 

Either way you are going to have to bleed your entire system to make sure you have no air, which it will be. You may use a little extra fluid but its most likely cheaper than your tool.

 

isnt the bench bleed kit just some clear hoses with fitting at the end..nothing to spectacular right....sound like something you can make.....just need a vise to hold it in place while you manually move the piston's back and forth.

 

You have to buy a brand new M/C to get it around here. They don't sell it seperately.

 

damn...i'll have to try and find someone that has some hardlines then.

 

definitely something you can make, problem is finding the fittings.

 

When I was a mechanic I had a whole drawer full of fittings for brake m/c's. Try visiting your local shops and see if they have any extra to sell if you cant obtain from a parts store.

 

I didn't use one, I swtiched to the 99-00 Si front and rear brakes on my 98 dx, and I got the 7/8 MC and replaced it, bled the brakes completely and now the car stops on a dime!

Right when I took the MC off the donor car, I covered the holes with my fingers to not let anymore fluid escape.

worse comes to worse i can just mount it on the car, and just use my stock hardlines, and stick the ends at the prop valve into a container of brake fluid and bleed it that way haha.

To avoid delaying it further, just slap it on and replace the brakes. Then when you're ready to bleed just do it the old fashioned way. Make sure when you are done bleeding the entire system that you test drive the car before actually driving it places though. Remember to get all the air bubbles out. I bought this little brake bleeding kit from Sears that really kept me from ghetto-rigging stuff. lol

 

It's not that big a deal. Bolt it to the booster, fill it with fluid, put your fingers over the holes and have someone pump the brakes for you. Do that a few times then just screw in the brake lines.
