Default hissing sound with clitch engagement?

When I push my clutch pedal to the floor, there is a hissing noise that comes from the engine compartment. It changes in pitch and intensity depending on how far I push the clutch in. I first noticed this problem after driving through some quite large puddles during a recent heavy thunderstorm. Any ideas?

It could be your throwout bearing. The puddles wouldn't have caused that to go bad, they go bad over time.

Yup, sounds like throw-out bearing.

It can also be the pilot bearing. It really doesn't make much of a difference as to witch on it is in order to replace them the trans has to come off so you might as well get a comp clutch kit and change everything at the same time

hmm, I just put in an excedy clutch and flywheel and bought a new pilot bearing. I wonder though about the throw-out bearing, I reused one that seemed to be in good condition. Is having a faulty throwout bearing going to affect daily drivablity other than excess noise? Will excess amounts of waterdamage the bearing?

water didn't damge your to bearing. that's a lot of moving **** for water to make it past, and what little MAY have made it up there, wouldn't have done anything. how's it drive? any jumping/weird engagement?

after driving through one puddle in particular, ( my wheels were almost completely underwater), I was not able to get the clutch to engage for about 20 seconds, it would just chatter around. Have any of you been able to drive a for a few months with a dieing throwout bearing, I am in school right now and can't really sacrifice the time to fix it.

I've heard an assload of descriptions of throwout bearing sounds and this is the first place I've ever heard somebody refer to it as a "hissing" sound.

I'd say it's probably the pilot bearing b4 I say it's the throwout bearing.
