Default H22 vtec sputtering

First off there are no cels. When my car reaches vtec it sounds like it switches over but it sputters and feels and sounds like it is engaging and disengaging. Last night it worked fine. Also it does it in all gears. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I too have sputtering among other torubles. This is a recent trouble. I've only had the car for 1700 miles. It's and auto and in "manual" or auto the engine sputters more like bounces off the rev limiter @ 6500 rpm and won't shift. Initially when this started it would "bounce" once and keep on climbing. Now it bounces/sputters at 6500 and stays there. I will post all my troubles in a seperate thread..fyi.

clean out your vtec solenoid and check your oil
and for the 2nd post are you throwing codes? if its bouncin off the rev at 6500 you might be in safe mode

Hows the timing on ur car? Check ur spark plugs and see if they're running as they should, not rich or lean. Also, check ur grounds, I went over some bumpy road once and knocked my thermostat ground a tad bit loose and on the way home it made my tach bounce a bit and when I engaged vtec it would sputter. Try these things and if it dosen't fix it then shoot me back a reply. O and one more thing, does it feel like ur loosing power when it's sputtering, or bogging at all?

First post ya deffintaly check your oil first Vtech runs off of oil pressure as long as theres oil showing up on ur dipstick you should be fine. My vtech cuts out here and there and its always my low oil pressure I just had the problem a couple days ago and added a couple quarts. I don't bout all Vtech ludes but mine goes through oil quite a bit.

yeah, mine was acting exactly as you describe and I checked the oil..... about 4 mm worth of oil on the dipstick i filled it up, no more feeling like it's banging out at 6500 and it pulls like it's supposed to!

I just put in a new transmission and on the same night I installed it, I took it out for a test drive, everything worked fine and pulled hard. The next day I drove it to a muffler shop and never hit vtec on the way there, to have my new header and downpipe put on along with getting my exhaust rehung. On the way back I went to go into vtec and that is when the problems started. The oil is full, checked the vtec solenoid and it is clog free and is working and put on new plug wires. One other thing when the rpms get high above 5k the temp gauge starts falling to cold then as soon as I or push the clutch in it goes right back to normal (I first noticed this the night I took it out for a spin but everything was working perfectly even with the temp going to completly cold). The car drives perfectly fine under normal conditions and there are still no cels. I am thinking it could be my distributor finally craping out (It is the same distributor that came with the motor and is internal coil with about 80k - 100k miles on it).Any intput would be greatly appreciatied and thanks again for your time.

Could a distributor going bad cause driving under normal load conditions seem fine but under heavy load like vtec cause these problems.

Someone told me it could be my ecu. But if my ecu was messed up could it be causing this problem and only this. Everything else seems fine.
