My Patience Is Wearing Thin. Need Some Advice Please (DC2R vs DC5R)
Well, its no secret that I've been waiting for the DC5R. Lately though I have been having second thoughts. Its not that I dont want the car, its just that there are qutie a few factors that, when combined, make me feel like we wont see the car for another year, if at all. I mean, look at Mitsubishi, they have already confirmed that the Lancer is coming over in january. Thats an 8 month heads up from them. Would Honda do the same thing if we were to recieve the rsx-R?
I just want some honest and unbiased opinions as to in your guys' thoughts of whether it would be better for me to hold of for the rsx-r or just buy a 2000R now. The most I'm willing to wait for the dc5R is 6 months, but I figured if it was coming out 6 months from now, Honda would have already said something. Is this true? Does Honda normally give this type of heads up like Mitsubishi did with the Lancer?
Its also a matter of value. This is why I ask for the honest opinions. I want the most car I can get for my money. I'd rather spend 22k on a new DC5 rather than spend 1k less to get a 2000-01.
Your opinions are greatly appreciated

My Opinion: Buy a DC2R. we know they are badass...they aren't that hard to find...they are still the one of the best values in the sports car market.
the DC5R may take too long for your deadline, might be a fluffed up RSX-S. Most importantly, I think with all the hype, the dealers are gonna be price gouging like hell, at least for the initial offerings. Just like they did with the S2000.
Just my opinion though, good luck on your decision.

You can expect the NA market will get a reduced level of the DC5R. With the DC2R, at least you know what it is...
However, if the USDM Integra GS-R to USDM Integra Type R is an indication of the performance gap between the DC5 "Type S" and the DC5 "Type R" ~ that'd be worth the wait.
...except for the McPherson struts...

Even in Japan it seems the concensus is that the DC5 isnt as much of a sports
machine that the DC2 was. Just food for thought.

I DO NOT like puchasing used cars... however, there are a few vehicles that I would purchase used.
1. ITR
2. E30 M3
3. Syclone
We all know that these are limited in numbers and somethings you just gotta ****** up when they are available. (Sure, you can wait 50 years for 1000hp 1 cylinder Honda, but why?) My next project car (not a beater) will be an E30 M3 (next to the ITR), then Syclone...
Also, you can always re-sell a DC2R and get DC5R (when and if it comes to the States).

I'm sure Yoshi could quote him better But it was something to the effect of "I know Honda will hate me saying this, But The DC2 is much more of a race car the the new DC5"

really. in perspective, they are asking 23-24k for a rsx type S just about, so the type R would cost lets say, 2 grand over the type S...and it will come stripped like the dc2r did. or better yet, it will come like the AU/NZ version, and cost 3-4k over the type S, putting the car in the 27-28k price range...
and really, as far as value, it depends what you value more. a race car, or a sporty car with a little luxury

I'd rather get the WRX
The DC5 is cool but I am not looking for coupes anymore. I guess You could always get a DC5S and mod it. but I think it's too early for mods on that car (development wise). I want to see what the potential is.
-aoib0t, who loves the WRX.

26-28k is up in 350z, STI, evo, s2k territory (ok, that's a bit of a reach on some of those). It had better be a lot of car for that money or it's just not going to keep up with the competition (sales and performance wise)
If you've ever driven a Type S you'd know feedback from the car is relatively numb, even though performance numbers are pretty good. I suspect the R version to be better, but probably not quite as knife edge sharp as the DC2R .. power will be better, but again, is it worth the 5-6k premium to you to have a car that is a half second faster to 60 but doesn't handle as well? I'm trying to be unbiased since I think both cars are cool and have their own merit

personally,
I wouldn't get a DC2R in cali. seems more headaches than more than it's worth. Unless all you do is go on socal cruises and BBQ's or places that are not public places that you will be away from a certain period of time.

I agree, it looks like the DC2R looks to be more of a performance car. If I would've know about the R two years ago, I would've purchased one new. I would go with the DC2R.. They are out there. Anyone wanna trade their R for a mint 2000 Si?
Damn MrSI.. you're still trying to pawn off your car?
Nothing is confirmed so why dream on a car that might not be offered here?
I say get a DC2R and if the DC5R ever comes out... you won't lose much on the DC2R if you wanna trade it in... or just get a DC2R and buy a DC5R when it comes out (it'll be a long time boys, if at all...)
By the time my R has 100,000 miles on it.. i'll move up to the DC5R... but think.. the Type S is supposed to be the top of the line of Acuras... would they kill that whole Type S image with a new Type R? Acura has gone toward luxury now, the DC2R is a once in a lifetime car...

Id take the DC2R... Things look bleak for the DC5R...
I have heard it stands no chance of passing emisions... The DC2R came because the head is just a modifyed GSR head and still similar... But the DC5R head is radically different... That and it was renamed and all.... I just dont see the RSX Type R coming here

The thing I like about the DC2 is that is seems to have the sportier look to it, and it seems to be smaller than the DC5.
Chris - who thinks the DC2 ownz the DC5..

LOL.. Skafia you want it? J/k.. Nahh, I like the SI, but it's no R... Maybe in the near future i can find a clean R.. Go with the DC2R..
Kanji, Im in the same boat you are. I am basically waiting to get a DC5-R myself. Like you im concerned if it will come here at all. And if it does I hope they wont water it down too much. They made DC5-S too good to have an R in the same market. Unlike the GSR which, was horrible in stock form, the Type-S is pretty good as is. And with the DC5s the R is only 20hp above the S (vs the 25hp difference in the DC2) in JDM form which will almost certainly get waterted down and further reducing the difference... I have my fingers crossed but it doesnt look good guys. Stupid Honda
I think most of the car industry is going "detriot" nowadays, long, bigger, heavier. Of course some companies are going more powerful as well, Porsche comes to mind. But with the bigger size and weight, driving fun is reduced in my opinion, more power be damned.
