I need some help,

when i have the car in reverese the car makes a clicking noise from the right front caliper,
its pretty rusty,
i put the car in the air and turned it by hand and it will make the clicking slightly going foward, but louder going in reverse, like a click clank click clank, like a thin piece of metal flipping back and forth,

when i roll the car back in reverse the noise sounds bad, and often, like click click clank clank click

i want to drive it to my friends to do the brakes, (replace)
but want to know if its safe, or what this problem can be,

any ideas?

sounds like the axle (cv joint)

 

caliper might also be seized and hanging up do the brakes and see if the caliper is seized if its not its most likley the axle . is the boot ripped?

 

that a shitload of rust

It could be the CV Joint....did you just leave your car in some water for a while, that's a pretty rusty car

 

i backed (driving) it up and has a clanking noise, and my friend saw smoke

no boots are ripped

makes no noise around corners, (when a cv joint ussually tells you its out)

 

any way i can free it up? seems to be a seized, or slow moving caliper

unless the pads are ripped from the caliper piston it will be safe to drive. even if the pad material is gone you will stop but will eventually damage the rotors and need then turned or just buy new ones. you should've saved your money on those fancy lug nuts and bought a wire brush and some rustoleum j/k

 

Swap them out for some Integra 10" front brakes !!! You'll spend less than $100 for a pair at a junkyard, I dont know where you're from, but thats about right out here in SoCal. Direct bolt on sir!

 

duuuuudeeeee get that **** cleaned up daammnnnn its dirtier than a **** under there go get some rustoleum high gloss black paint and a caliper rebuild kit orrr new calipers godd lol j/p sdounds like your calipers seizing up check them out make sure youve got pad left on your brakes that they are wearing evenly and so forth but yea its either this or a joint could be screwd id say check the calipers and joints brush them down paint em up and lube the **** out of anything that moves down there after that come on back..

the lug nuts were put on there only for a pic to sell them i had them lying around, alot of people in my area like that mad tyte jdm pink so im trying to ditch em

well, im going to buy new, rotors, pads, hardware kit, calipers, rear drums, shoes, and the springs for the rear drum (like a pump) while all that is removed im going to sand down the fork, and other rusty **** and paint it with primer (rustoleum) then a cover paint (some sort of rustoleum) and then install the fresh brakes,

i wanted to drive it to get to the garage to do the brakes,
but it seems a bit locked or iffy, wanted to loosen it up

what lube or materials would i need during the install to protect my the pieces i install, (antiseize lube?)

 

yup anti sieze
your going to need bearing grease AKA Packing grease
and caliper lube
as a cover coat try using 3m's rubberized undercoat works wonders and is completely waterproof its like $5 at advanced auto and is worth every penny
for prtection use alot if antisieze or packing grease on the bearins and bolts and crap and when installing make sure your caliper is lubed well and can move smotthly and isnt hanging up anywhere
P.s. sanding doesnt work very well for those parts try using the rust remover they have at advanced i use it all the tim you wipe it on and watch it fall off and dissapear and out comes bare clean paintable metal

 

Does the caliper bracket have both bolts on it tight?

id change the cv joint i just had to change mine cause it was starting to click too is your rubber boot covering the joint ripped anywhere ?

thanks, im going too change just the brakes sunday, ill see if the noise stays, bt im pretty sure its the old caliper

 

Holy rust!!!

I would replace the calipers ASAP.

This is exactly what my wife's car sounded like. Does the clicking get faster the faster you go? Hers did and she had a bad wheel bearing AND cv joint . Hooray for bumper to bumper warranties

 

this might sound stupid but did you check to see if the dust sheild is bent a little and maybe hitting the rotor, hey its worth a try
