Hello,

I just bought an EJ8 coupe and this car has an aftermarket alarm with keyless entry. The car originally had power locks, but I'm not sure if it had a factory keyless entry system or not. My problem is that the passenger's side lock will not always lock, either with the remote or from the inside with the electric switch. It moves a little, but doesn't move enough to go into the "lock" position. I was wondering if I could fix this by spraying the locking mechanism with some lithium grease, or if I should take the door panel off and spray the inside mechanism with grease too? If so, does anyone have any picture or writeup on how to take the door panel off?

grease couldnt hurt anything, and you will need to take the panel off to see whats up anyway. sounds like it might be binding up

 

dude.....dont read books on how to take stuff apart ..learn as you go..thats what i would do..take watever needs to be off....

O M G. Read that one more time, and think about why you would say that. There is absolutely nothing wrong with reading a book to learn how to do something, or having a manual sitting next to you to help you through something. Mechanics have tons of manuals to help them out.

OP, if you are serious about working on your car, get a HELMS manual. If you are just going to take the door off, then you dont need the HELMS, it is only a few screws and it pops off.

 

Cool thanks. I have had Helms manuals in the past for my other cars, but I haven't had a chance to order one for this car yet. I figured it was just a few screws, but sometimes there's hidden plastic tabs or something that I seem to have bad luck with. I don't want to break anything. Thanks for the help - I appreciate it.

 

there are some plastic tabs, but they pop out, they are kind of hard to get out sometimes, just be gentle, but firm, as to not break anything. lol, it that makes sense.

 

pop the door panel off and check out the actuator.
