Automatic H22 longblock VS. Manual H22 longblock. whats the difference? *searched*
well...lately i been searching and trying to figure out the damn difference between these 2 motors. not many thread helped me with my question. i recently bought a JDM h22 longblock and i just realized it came from a automatic. i used to have a USDM h22 manual longblock and its rated at 190. the JDM longblock is 200 with a 10.6 comp over the US 10.0. now the part thats trips me out is, between the two motors i feel alot more power when i had the USDM h22. it was 200k+ low comp on cyl. #4. and ridiculous amounts of oil leaks. since time was an issue i opt to a JDM h22 longblock. which i happen to get an automatic. but this motor starts up strong and sounds great with no problem whatsoever. but i dont understand why this motor is slower than my USDM h22. i ran a friends car with my US h22 and beat him by 3-4 cars CONSISTENTLY. the JDM h22 only gets him by 1-2 car consistently.
the mods i have on the JDM h22 is more than what i had on the US h22.
i have...
I/H/E/spoon p13/removed balancer belt/gutted rear and dash/exedy OE clutch/fidanze 8lbs flywheel/walbro 255 FP/aem fuel rail.
so now to get down to the bottom line.
i understand there is a throttle body difference from what i've researched.
the automatic throttle body is 2mm smaller then the US h22 T/B. other than that, everyone says its the same thing overall.
but i switched up to my USDM h22 throttle body and felt a bit of difference.
would there be any difference in the cams?
or anything?
please inform me i am very dissappointed in the performance of my motor compared to my beat up USDM h22 which is faster than this one even the shape it was in.
TIA.

i was running this ECU on my US H22 as well. so i wouldnt think that makes a difference.

on a serious note, hearsay has said that automatic cams are smaller...but nobody has measured them that i know of
have you changed anything else since then?</TD></TR></TABLE>
im done nothing but add the fuel rail and the fuel pump on the JDM motor. other than that it remains the same as the US H22.
im begining to assume the automatic cams are smaller. but im hoping someone can clarify that for me before hand.

Could be a number of things. Maybe even be due to swap itself. It's not hard to overlook details. However, really diagnosing lower performance should be a little more thourough than the "how many car lengths I beat my friend by" method (especially when comming to other strangers about said problem).
On another note, I too am nurturing a once stolen Prelude back to into shape. I totally feel your sig.

yea i definately agree. i dropped the motor in twice. i first threw in my US H22 into the chassis. then i sold the longblock. to buy the JDM longblock little did i know it was a auto longblock. which made me kinda pissed. but figured it'll still be the same. 200hp and blah blah blah. but man what a difference. i mean it runs good and strong but i dont understand why it isnt as fast as my other motor when there was more performance parts added to this one. i'll probably buy some skunk2 stage 2 cams for it with new vavletrain and hopefully it brings the monster outta this motor.
first thing u need to do is get rid of that ecu. chipped ecus suck.
as far as comparing. what does this motor yeild on a compression check? leakdown test?
ive "heard" the cam thing but no one knows.
also the new fuel rail and pump maybe causeing you to run rich, losing power? what id your fuel pressure set at? how do ur plugs look?
btw-got an auto ecu with that engine u want to get rid of?

i would think there are many factors as well. condition of the overall motor can have so many different outcomes. just because you put the same exact motor in your ride doesn't mean they are both going to put out that same power without proper maintenance.

yea well it was bought wayyy back when hondata wasnt around. so that was my best choice. motor compression was tested and i remember they all came in 200+ like the highest comp was #2 at 206. so everything else is in between there. as for the plugs...all maintenence was done before motor was put in. i do i have fuel upgrade. but since im still on my stock fuel pressure regulator. i think im still running normal fuel. and no i dont have a auto ECU sorry.
a guy who runs a shop that ships in JDM parts told me the the JDM cams happen to be smaller then the USDM cams. *according to him* he said to switch cams and then it'll run alot better.

i really dont see the cams making a big difference, just my opinion. i have a set somewhere if ur stuck on trying it. what i ment about the plugs were are they really black or white to see if u were rich or lean...
is it real slow? like maybe the timing belt is off a tooth? who changed it?

no the car isnt slow. its quick. just compared to my US H22 which is KNOWN to be slower. happens to be that my JDM longblock feels slower. just wanted to know it the fact that it was an automatic longblock was the reason why it wasnt up to par with my US H22.
