What makes J's Racing muffler better than others?

Hey guys. I am going to be building a custom 2-3/4" stainless exhaust to replicate the J's Race header back system, and I was wondering if their muffler is a huge factor in the power it makes, because I was just wondering why a $200 universal ti muffler wouldnt work, and if it is a big factor, does anyone make something in a similar design? Thanks guys.

In all reality, how much more restrictive could a universal titanium "N1" muffler be compared to theirs, and it will be without a resonator also. On another note, they have either 2.5" or 3" inlets on the muffler, so would it be better to go with a 3" inlet and step up to the muffler, or go with the 2.5" and hack that off and weld a 2-3/4" pipe on it?

a $200 universial ti muffler would work perfectly fine. There is a formula used to calculate the volume of a muffler when taking consideration the size of your engine and the power you're trying to make. There's no point spending whatever it costs for a J's muffler when there are plenty race shops that sell muffler's for race cars but you'll probably run into a really loud muffler that wont be legal for the street.

Sweet man, thats what I will do then. I will be using the pictured Ti muffler. 5.3lbs.
Once i get my tig I will post pics and power gains.

is that even real titanium?
i dont think thats real titanium ... real titanium has rough finish ... and you said its 5lbs ... the J's 70RR only weighs 10lbs for the whole header back ...

the guy i'm buying it from says it is, and I have seen other universals that are around that weight. Anyways, if it isnt, I might use a carbon can or a kevlar if I can find it. I think I can get the whole system to no more than 15lbs from the header back.

Its not the J's muffler that works, its all the research and design that goes into it to make it work best. J's uses their parts on the car. Their tested and proven.
Im not knocking your system though, a custom made single exhaust is going to free up power to the s2000.

Yeah I totally understand that, but I am not about to pay $1500 for an exhaust when I can make one with similar results for under $500 and have fun doing it, and have a very unique exhaust, but yes, J's is a very nice company and if you have the money, by all means do it up...myself on the other hand, this is is not my baller car, my prelude is

What muffler is that actually? Looks pretty hot IMO.
But yes, 5 lbs for a Ti muffler? That is pretty heavy. My T1R 70mm v2 weighs no more than 20 lbs and the only thing that's Ti is the tip. Great Exhaust BTW.

It looks just like a Ti N1, I should have it here next week and I will weigh and look for a brand or a badge or something, I just love the color of it, and should look pretty good on Sebring.

what do you mean exactly? Ima buy one possibly in the coming days..
btw, its a 2 month old exhuast with 1500 miles on it and the tip is only burnt...like an inch of it...do you think if it gets driven hard the entire exhaust will turn blue? or no, doenst seem like it will now

to doing your own welding/fabricating but that's not titanium. I don't understand how a muffler can be labelled titanium stainless steel. They are two different metal alloys and as I see it, titanium doesn't weld to stainless steel. Keep the whole system stainless steel, go witha thin wall tubing and make sure your tig welding skills are up to par without blowing holes into the tubing.

I think that is a waste of money, I have heard pleanty of ebay mufflers, and have even used one on my del sol, and I can justify paying the extra money for a name. The ones I have used have been deep, not raspy at all, and have even sounded better than the genuine ones, but I will still end up paying for a ~$200 real titanium one. I am not cheap or ricey, I am just not going to pay $150+ for a little embossed logo on the can.

so why you asking again? or what are you asking? if you should get the ebay one? what does it matter if you already are under the impression an apexi is the same thing as the ebay?
